It was stopped during the first year of production, basically because it was costing GM to put those chicklets and the GM badge under the hood more money. It only was part of the first year.

It helped the vehicle retain it's market value. Making the car worth more for a longer period of time

I believe the 'chicklets' first appeared in 2007. Not sure if all (i.e. early) 2007's had them. They were placed on all GM cars up till some time in 2010 production. My 2008 G6 has'em but my 2010 Camaro (#90995, built 2/7/2010) does not have them.
GM stopped using them because they wanted to disassociate their cars from "GM" due to the bankruptcy and bailout.

If you ordered your car in late 2009/early 2010 before production began then your car was assigned the R6P code (like an option code). It doesn't show up on the window sticker, but if you look at the list of options on the sticker in the trunk its there.

I thought it was a marketing thing... Made it more "special" to be driving a 2010 in the summer of 2009...

They started in 2006. Small part # 15223484,large (mostly trucks) # 15223483. I'm sure most GM dealers have these in stock.
