Sport vs Tapshift

Went to the track today... I made a couple of back to back passes, one in Sport and one shifting manual. First the slips:

Almost identical! (for some reason the track has trouble with my trap speed... LOL)

The Sport slip is on the left and the manual is on the right.

Here are the data logs. First the Sport mode:

Now the manual:

So the sport mode:

1->2 .325
2->3 .275

and manually shifting:

1->2 .350
2->3 .225

so there in this very unscientific test there is a very slight advantage to using the tap shifter....

its great to see that the sport mode is so good, and that the tap shift is also very good

Was driving with my brother yesterday. I have the L99 A6. I noticed that in Sport mode that when you stop like at a stop sign or in the middle of the road, the car does not go into 1st gear, it will go into 2nd and that's where you take off from. You have to manually shift down into 1st while stopped.

Basically we were doing burnouts (yes I'm 34) and couldn't get the car to do them in drive or sport even with TC off. Hold down brake, hit gas, and let off brake while gas is floored. If you shift down into 1st you can leave a nice long dual rubber track into 3rd gear before the car catches. Lotta smoke, good stuff. Won't do jack in 2nd gear as I found out.

Anyone else notice Sport not starting from 1st gear and is there a reason besides preventing me from ruining my tires?

I was also researching online and noticed a lot of gear differences between the transmissions. I don't know what it means, I'm assuming the bigger the number the more torque?

The only mode that doesn't automatically start out in 1st gear is M (manual - tap shift mode). In manual/tap shift mode, it only drops you down to 2nd gear when you come to a stop. As you mentioned, the only way to be in 1st gear is to tap down into it.
The other modes (D -regular drive), (M -regular sport mode) start you out in
1st gear everytime you come to a complete stop.
