Question MGW Short Throw Opinions?

Since i’ve had all the engine performance stuff done i’m looking to grab a short throw.

My buddy had a 2011 2SS with the factory optioned Hurst and man i absolutely hated that thing.

I’ve seen a lot of good word about the MGW short throw. I’d get the Cueball style knob and probably a new alcantara shift boot since mines looking a little ratty.

I was ironically going to get the black shift knob but i was like there’s no way it won’t be 10000 degrees when i hop in the car lol.

How’s the drivability with the short throw for daily driving? Is it miserable?

Buddy of mine had a 10’ WRX with an insane short throw and during regular traffic and daily driving it made the car so unfun. When racing it, a different story, felt fantastic.

Just wanna make sure this MGW is good for daily and is great for racing or aggressive driving.

Absolutely worth every penny. I waiting a few years and wish I would’ve done it when I got the car. I went with the flat stick short throw and a weighted ball. You will have a little more road noise than the factory shifter but the pros out weigh the cons tremendously. FYI the thread pattern is 3/8-16 if you start looking for shifter knobs.

Cool cool. And did you see an increase in shift times ? were your shifts significantly faster?

On the flat stick yes. On the retro style, MGW told me M12x1.75.

Thanks for the info, I figured they would all be the same.

They are closer so it helps a little but not so close that it makes driving in stop and go traffic miserable.

My 2015 SS vert has the factory short-throw. Granted, the action could feel better but it doesn't bother me too much. I figured out how to work with it over time. But as for MGW, I put one in my 2009 Mustang GT and it was, hands down, the best shifter I have ever used with the one possible exception of the Hurst 4 speed I had coupled to a Muncie M22 in my first 69 GTO.

I have the MGW as well. Super easy to install yourself if you're able to work under your car. I was stuck on one part of the process that required you to flip a little metal thing. Hard to describe but it took a few minutes to figure it out. You'll have to drop the transmission a few inches as well. It sounds scary but if you can do an oil change, you can do this. I always thought subframe bushings and titanium JPSS radius rod inserts were the most underrated mods but MGW short shifter makes this one of the most enjoyable gearboxes I've rowed through. I'd be surprised if any car out there has a better shifter feel after doing this mod

My first 5th gen I drove was the factory Hurst. I hated it, super notchy. I ordered a 1LE, it comes with the "gm short throw shifter" aka ZL1 shifter. Same throw reduction as the Hurst just a totally different feel. I installed an MGW. Made the car that much better. Smooth shifts, not super short but short enough. My car was a DD for about 5 or 6 years. I had the MGW installed 3 or 4 of those 5/6 years. I still have the MGW installed. Never looked at another shifter.

If you're thinking about upgrading to the MGW just do it. You won't regret it.
