Tuner Gurus: Can I put a TUNE on S and leave D alone?

Inquiring mind wants to know.

Basically a tune on S for Road Course and while in D stock settings.

a tune will make the car driver better all around. better MPG, smoother shifts etc. its not like getting a tune is going to make your car drive really aggressive or something.

also i dont have the answer for you question

I've had a tune on my last two cars but they were stick, this is why I'm asking about a TUNE on S mode. I want it to shift at higher RPMs for Road Courses. And a TUNE can help the car be more aggressive. I don't want that same tune for daily driving.

Interesting question. Are you just wanting to change the shift points or are you wanting to do more? With a handheld connected you could theoretically load a canned tune into your car when you wanted to operate in S mode and then return to stock or load a completely different tune when you're in D mode. Normally this is done when switching from 87 octane to 93 for instance but it can be done for changing driving modes. I doubt you can program a tuner that actually recognizes what mode you're in and then changes parameters without having it connected to change tunes but I could be mistaken.

A tune is going to effect both "D" and "S".

The only thing you can tune differently for these two are the torque management and the transmission shift points.

Keep in mind not all vendors and not all tune software is capable of this so if you plan on doing this you will need to ask if they are capable of this first.

I think a tune affects "D" and "S", you can't just tune one or the other...

The car already comes "Tuned" in sport mode for road coarse racing and drag racing. Driving around town in sports mode revving the engine, you'll notice it staying at higher rpm's until it recognizes that you don't need the engine to rev that high- that is for road coarse racing basically.

Drag racing in sport mode has the shift point pre-set at 5500 rpm.

One of the things i need to get clarification on from Lingenfelter- I want to say that when they "Tuned" my car, is that they made "D" very similar to "S". And I am not sure if their tune did anything to "S" mode.

Our trannies can be "tuned".....SEPERATLY as well. and tailor each, D or S, to suit your wants and desires. I've had mine done. And I love it!

Don't know for sure on the SS Camaros but on the V6 , I know that Trifecta tuning can tune differently for sport and and regular modes....I don't see why the SS would be any different for this.

...and yes even stock the car responds different to aggresive driving in sport mode. Kick her down a few times and the car will stay in the upper rpms so you can have more power on tap instantly.

My car is on a stock tune. When I was running the road course at C5F2, I had it in "S" mode and once the car realized I was "driving agressively" it started holding gears longer and down-shifting more agressively whenever I would lift off the throttle or hit the brakes.

The factory tune is already pretty agressive...

I thought that was the case Sir Nuke, glad somebody confirmed that. Myself I have a manual but another option if you want to go the handheld programer route like an SCT, you can have a stock tune and a road racing tune in the unit and switch back and forth between the two. So if you are going out to a road course put that tune in it, and for the street go back to the stock tune.
