Burnout - clutch instead of tires ?

Now that I've got nearly 1,000 miles I thought I'd finally do a real burnout. I dropped the clutch about 4 - 5000 RPM and *thought* the tires were spinning, but the clutch pedal itself didn't seem to have engaged properly and clutch fumes filled the car for the next 10 miles.

Anybody with similar experience ?

Anybody had any luck with the dealer fixing a clutch under warranty ?

Clearly a bone stock car should have a clutch to handle this.

Yes, believe it or not, I had the same problem! That shit was pretty embarrasing. First and last burnout that i attempted. Clutch still works good though, I thought I would never get the smell out of the car. The clutch seemed to stay halfway not fully released then came the smoke and the engine started sputtering.

Check ur brake fluid. Others have complain about the clutch getting stuck halfway up also i personally haven't had the problem though. 1350 miles on mine.

It doesn't take nearly that many rpm's to break'em loose and do a burn out, and yes you must turn off traction control!

Takes me 4000 and I still bog down to about 1500.. I am at 6000 msl so I have a power disadvantage, but the gears and the 20" just kills it. Get rear end gears and it will wake this thing up and save your clutch...

Thought I had traction control off - double-click to Competition mode. I hadn't read the manual though - just going off the new car once-over. I suspected something weird there. So now I'll RTFM........<blush>

...and yes it was pretty embarrassing.

Motor didn't bog though - cranked right through the clutch and any traction control.....

double clicking puts you into competitive mode and traction control is still on just at a reduced level. Hold it down for 7 secs to turn everything off, traction control and stability control.

Ahh crap this happened to me last night: I was in competitive mode and revved to about 5000rpms then dropped the clutch and the clutch seemed to be stuck halfway to the ground. It wouldn't go back to normal till i drove it about a hundred feet then I got the awful clutch smell that the M6 Camaro likes to share. Does anyone know why? Isn't the Camaro supposed to be able to do that in competitive mode which they call "Launch Mode?" Someone please inform me why my car is doing this! Thanks so much....

That's exactly what happened to me.

But like you state - double-click Competitive mode should enable Launch Control. Ironically, the computer is supposed to be programmed specifically for drag racing, yet it obviously doesn't work. Seriously screwed up is more like it............

I'll try the single click vs. 7-second suggestion. There's nothing in the manual about holding for 7 seconds. Very interesting how it details Launch Control though....

Could GM have set it to do this to prevent people from doing burnouts?

If your trying to do a burnout while in comp mode it seems like youd be confusing the computer and thats why its not working. Comp mode is designed to control the wheel spin to get you a better launch
