Odd Ticking Sound (V6) and Camaro "Bug"

Ok, so I was in the drivethrough... ... I absolutely hate fast food but needed something for breakfast and didn't have anything good at home. Anyway, I was pretty close to the building waiting and tapped the accelerator. At EXACTLY 1,000 RPM's I hear a ticking sound. The best way I can describe it is the sound a playing card makes in the spokes of a bicycle. This sound continues past 1,000 RPM's but is masked by the rest of the engine noise. As I moved away from the building the sound is no longer heard over the normal engine noises.

Any idea what that could be?

Now the "bug" I found with the Camaro and would love to hear a solution on how to fix this is if you:

1. Unlock the doors
2. Open the passenger door
3. Insert the key and turn it to standby (just before starting the vehicle)
4. Stereo should come on if it was one prior to turning off the vehicle
5. Close the passenger door and lock them with the remote

... the stereo stays on. The only way I found to turn it off was to go to the driver door, open and then close it. I only went through the passenger side to close my window all the way after noticing it was down.

Any way to make it so it turns off? Luckily I had the music up or else I might not have noticed and my car could have had the stereo on for hours.

Ticking is the fuel injectors. Bug is so you can continue to listen to the radio for ten minutes after you turn the car off. Just turn the radio off after you turn the car off.

Hmm... so the sound is normal... that's good. I saw a couple YouTube videos of people claiming the same type of sound on different cars. Anyway to reduce that noise or get rid of it? Haha.

As for the stereo... does it only last 10 minutes? I've never sat down and tested it. But I like the fact that the radio comes on when I turn the car on... kind of defeats that purpose if I turn it on and off all the time.

The radio turns off as soon as you open the drives door - the passenger door is not "monitored" in this case - hmm now that I think about it - maybe it doesnt I'll have to go play around and see.

Yeah the driver door will turn it off, but in my case I opened the passenger door (which I imagine plenty of people open the passenger side to load something). But I'm not sure many people would turn the car on from the passenger side like I did. But the unfortunate thing is that the stereo will stay on (for how long I have no idea).

Plus if you want you can open the either door (no key) press the on/off knob on the radio and it will come on for about ten minutes.

I use this mode when i'm cleaning the car

Well why would you get in on the passenger side, turn on the car, then leave?

pretty much all GM cars, and most other cars have rundown protection. even if the radio did stay on for more than 10 minutes, if the battery level gets low enough the computer will shut everything electrical off so that the car will start next time you get it. great feature. saved my Cobalt's battery when I locked my keys in it (which I did all the freakin time) once and left accessory mode on. It shut the lights and everything off and when I got it unlocked it started right up.

I never knew this- good stuff! I'm going to do this the next time I'm cleaning the inside of the car. I hate listening to the door ding.

The direct injection fuel pump makes quite a ticking noise. Also the DI injectors are louder than low pressure injectors.

You should hear a DI 4 cylinder fuel pump tapping away. I test drove a 4 cyl GM Terrain the other day with a 4 cy direct injection engine. Opened the hood while at idle, would swear it had a spun bearing the thing was tapping so loud.
