Camaro's Competition
Do you think the Camaro SS is ready and will stand up to it's competition? (Dodge Challenger SRT8, Ford Mustang GT, Pontiac G8 GXP,and the Barracuda Plymouth- if it goes into production)
If you don't think the Camaro is a good match for the competitors, tell me why? |

BTW the G8 is in a totally different class than the Camaro. There are also based on the same platform so they're sort of like.......cousins. But the Camaro SS vs the Mustang GT vs the SRT8, the Camaro SS wins.

Isn't the real question "Can the competitors keep up with the Camaro?"

Test drive
I just got back from driving both a Mustang GT and a Challanger RT. Lets just say this the Camaro doesn't have to be much of a car to beat the Challanger and the Mustang wont be that hard to beat either. The Challanger had a very floaty feeling and the Mustang was..... well a Mustang. Over all I was not impressed at all with the Challanger and the Mustang was a good car but still wasnt that great.

Hell yes it is ready. I think it will really rule the segment. But what's this about a new Cuda? If that's true I gotta tell my dad, he loves the Cuda.

I voted yes, although the GT500 will probably be an exception. Which is why we may need to see a Z/28 (hint hint)...

To be honest, No.
I think the new mustang GT with the rumored 5.0L engine can be a real challenge for the Camaro. The current 4.6L 300hp mustang GT already have a 0-60 time of 4.9sec, if they push it up to 350-400hp its gonna be a tough competitor for the SS which I expect it to be in the 4.2-4.6sec range. |

The classic competition for the Camaro SS will fall behind at the track. V6 competitors will be a tough match, but the Camaro LS will keep up, although passing lighter, smaller coupes will be tough without some aftermarket help and good driving. In any case, don't expect to catch a Camaro at the back of the pack.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider the G8 a competitor, for one it's a sibling brand under the same parent company. Two, it's a four door sedan which caters to a slightly different consumer.
