Not sure what the issue is, but next time it comes on you can call OnStar and have them run a diagnostic test for you.

If the code reader doesn't power up, then the obd port doesn't have power. Check fuses other than that can't follow your post

do you guys realize this is posted in the 3rd gen camaro section,, they do not have onstar and they do not have an obd2 diag port,,, they use an obd1 diag port that is not self powered,, also on most all obd1 gm cars you can get the diag trouble codes by jumping pin A to pin B:

I WAS GOING TO TRY JUMPING THE PINS INSTEAD OF THE CODE READER I JUST BOUGHT, BUT THE SES LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON UNTIL THE MOTOR IS RUNNING, AND ALL MY BOOKS SAY TO PLUG IN THE READER OR JUMP THE WIRES BEFORE TURNING ON THE IGNITION TO THE RUN BUT NOT START
IF I START THE CAR AND PLUG IN THE READER IT JUST FLASHES STEADILY UNTIL I UNPLUG IT, THEN IT GOES BACK TO ALWAYS ON. I'M LOST HERE

Jump the pins. It's free to try.

What scanner do you have?

So... did you ever jump the pins to see if it worked? that code reader may be defective.

I SINCE HAVE NOTICED THAT MY BATTERY KEEPS GOING DEAD, AND WHEN I HOOKED UP THE BATT. CHARGED I WIGGLED SOME WIRES NEAR THE BATTERY AND THE COOLING FAN CAME ON (THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN RUNNING OR HOT AT ALL) SO I FOLLOWED THE WIRES AND THEY GO TO WHAT LOOKS LIKE A RELAY OR FUSE BLOCK RIGHT BESDIE THE RAD AND IT IS LOOKING CRISPY SO I NEED TO REPLACE IT BEFORE DOING MUCH OF ANYTHING ELSE

It's funny you say that.. My 1992 Camaro no longer will send the error codes to any readers.
