SS Gas Mileage

I have had my 2SS Manual Transmission for 1 week. I am averaging about 14.8 MPG. Granted, I am driving mostly around town, and although I haven't been speeding, I have not been slowly accelerating if you catch my drift. I am going to try and get the average gas mileage closer to 20 if possible. Anyone else have avg gas mileage as crappy as me? Any tips when shifting/driving? Thanks.

We went out tonight for a 40 mile fun run with my 2SS/RS A6. 3/4 local, many lights and 1/4 interstate. We averaged 17.7 per the computer. I'm Ok with that. I didn't buy this great car to worry about gas mileage. Also, nothing but 93 octane for my SS.

Mileage will improve as the engine breaks in........

Not sure where you live or what the conditions are like -- but it should improve quite a bit depending on driving conditions.

"Thor" has averaged just about 20mpg at 14,500 miles........

(LS3 and 6-speed manual)

Straight, calm highway miles, averaging 70MPH for 100 miles and remaining in 6th gear (1500-2000RPMS) without stopping, slowing or accelerating to pass. I'm seeing around 18MPG. Far cry from the advertised 24MPG Highway, but I'm not complaining or surprised. The car is what it is and as a weekender, it could be 10MPG Highway for all I care. Wasn't purchased to be a practical vehicle anyway. Car has 1500 miles on it.

Thanks Fbod, that's what I was told by my family. I live in the NY metro area, although I keep my car out of the 5 burroughs, except the Bronx. Traffic to work, side streets home. Mostly around town, but I get some good highway mileage in. Enjoying the break in. I have 750 miles in one week, loving life!!!

You serious Scott? Then just out of curiosity, why would they put 24MPG on the sticker? It isn't even coming close to the advertised optimal potential.

Try the 5/20 pull. (Do a search) I went from around 17 to 27mpg.

LS3 owner with ~8000+ miles.

They had to lie, cheat and steal to get that rated at 24 MPG, I think. It's why the car has skip shift- to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

It isn't a prius, remember. Just make sure your in the right gear and not driving like a maniac for the best mileagle.

What is sad, is I hear the V6 owners are getting not much better than us, some of 'em anyways.

I'm getting 15 to 16, around 1000 miles and that's 95% city/town driving and basically no overdrive since i'm varying rpm's for break in.

You might get 20-21MPG at 55 MPH; I think that's closer to the highway speed GM/GOV test at.
