Defending a ticket for AAC "Amber" LEDs
For those who don't know me I work in the Computer Forensics/eDiscovery realm and recently got a ticket for my amber halos since the officer thought they were red.
With the much appreciated help of everyone at AAC I was able to put together ironclad documentation that aided in defeating the ticket. I will now carry a copy of this in my car just in case and wanted to share with the rest of the community. If you run into a similar situation I will be happy to help you for free by creating a custom document for you and I will certify the facts as a court recognized forensic expert. For the record: Amber is 50 state legal, in no way shape or form is this circumventing a law, it is purely to support you for any law enforcement you may meet who are unaware of this fact. Note: All personal information I do not want displayed has been removed. The rest is business related information. |

Additionally, this instance is for California, but applies to the FMVSS which covers all states and is considered the 'authoritive document'.

Oh wow that's superawesome. Yeah, like SynerBee, I was about to ask if this could be done for my green LED DRLs. :P Police haven't given me any trouble thus far, but you never know...

I Doubt they would mess with green because they don't look red or blue. Aac amber looks close to red at certain conditions or to certain eyes that can give you a ticket lol

Green... not so legal. Amber.. is the only color allowed up front, besides white.
Thats impressive paperwork!! That should come with the purchase of colored Halo's.. just in case of Law Enforcement curiosity...

According to the cited statute green is legal in CA. However at doesn't mean there isn't another statute out there that prohibits it. I am not aware of one, but you might want to do some homework.
For instance, by this documentation blue is legal up front, however they will get you for impersonation of a police officer |

Can someone clear up for me the difference between "diffused non-glaring light" and "lamps and reflectors"? The reason I ask, is because I read the CA diffused lights saying you can not have red, but you may have other colors. However, in 25950 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25950.htm) it says "The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from in front of a vehicle, shall be white or yellow". I would think the Halos could easily be considered a "lamp" if the cop wants to write you a ticket.

Yellow = Amber for all intents and purposes. Additionally a lamp is defined as a light with a purpose eg illumination or turn signals. Halos are decoration.
