My mom let me take her porsche to graduation I begged forever and it all worked out well. That being said I wouldn't let you just because I know your Boyfriend will want to drive and if he pushes the issue you will most likely allow it. Furthermore you made a comment about how crazy he is about the car when you mentioned the waterspots. To me that means that you don't have the same level of respect. (not wanting your car to be dirty sounds normal to me.)

Wow some of these comments are crazy..your car is that important..ITS JUST A CAR! Even to the original poster.."not even water spots" lol
There are kids out there that have cars handed to them and either ruin them or take care of them. I remember going to school and there was one kid that had a brand new at the time 89 Mustang..beat the bag off it..the other his father got him a very nice 69 Camaro the first thing he did with his father was put a 500HP engine in it..drove it like it was sacred metal. Even though he had the fastest car at HS. After graduation he tore the whole car apart and did a full restoration on the body and caged it and the car is a show stopper along with a serious performance car. To this day he still has it and its now a 9 second car. If this girl really and honestly understands what this car means to him then she should treat it with the respect she has for her father and treat it like he would. Especially if she knows the hobby a bit. But if he sticks it in the corner of the garage and lets no one near it but him thats kinda odd. But if her father and her go out in it and enjoy the car I see no reason why not. Its just a car. Cars are made to be part of memories. Chances are you will have this car the day before the day of and the day after her HC with no problem. His daughter only has one time in her life to enjoy something like this. She asked her dad to use his car. If her intentions are pure and she knows what this means to her dad I say yes. My son is not even 2 yet but when he gets older and he wants to take his date to prom and asks if he can use that special car if we have one..I will say yes. Why? For one he will know what a car can do and two..he will know what the car can do and with that he will know what to do with the car. If my son is a good kid and treats other peoples stuff well and if this is like his daughter I see no reason to stop her from creating a great memory. If you trust your daughter in what she says and give her the rules..its a car! Drive it.. |

Sorry, but no. Kids shouldn't drive 400-hp cars.
Also, isn't January an odd time for homecoming? |

It's never "just a car." I'm guessing it's the embodiment of the hard work he had to put into earning every cent to pay off the expensive and enjoyable piece of machinery. If he freaks out over water spots, it further emphasizes how much he cares about it and how much it's worth to him. Consequently, my dad has a gorgeously restored '69 Camaro, but I didn't even think of asking him to lend it to me for prom. You think this guy's anal about his Camaro? Doesn't even come close to my dad, and GOD KNOWS how much I love and respect that car. The day he told me he wanted to sell it, I nearly teared up. I grew up in and around that car, watching it go from the POS it was to the trophy-snagging beast it's become has been nothing short of incredible. My intentions would have been pure-I have an excellent head on my shoulders- but there are some things you just don't lend out to kids. A 426hp LS3 doesn't compare to a 500+hp 489, but when you put that kind of effort into earning/making a car, it's not something you'd easily hand out to your teenage child for a dance. From experience, I can say that taking a limo is simply the better option. You really want to build a good memory? Go with your friends and have an amazing time with them. It won't provide the same enjoyment as going in a cool car, but I can guarantee it's an excellent, if not better, proxy.

If your a senior then that only makes you like 4 or 5 years younger than me.. I'm still trying to figure out how I let myself drive my own SS.
And I'd be more concerned about the "boy toy" I mean who's actually going to be driving the car? When I was in highschool (lets see.. graduated 06 so not that long ago) if I was dating a girl who's partents had a nice car and they let us take it to prom.. bet your @$$ I wouldn't of been in the passenger seat when the car got there. Instead I drove a 67' Coronet with a 440 (bored, 10.9:1 pistons, aluminium heads, high rise intake, 2 4-barrel 650's for 1300CFM, mopar purple cam, shift kit, hurst ratchet shifted, posi, 4.10's and DOT slicks) But when you put alot of time (2 years) and alot of efford into helping your best friend build the car.. The trust is there. That's the only person that's been allowed behind the wheel of my 2010 SS. I won't even let my dad behind the wheel of it! I let him drive my 2005 SRT-4 once... and after he tried to get on it and ended up white smoking tires through second gear (in front of a cop too) He's been banned from driving anything I own over 250hp. |

Commits weekly crime

I would say...only if your GPA is 3.5 or higher (assuming grades are still based off 4.0 being perfect. And...this is the big thing...Does he have any reason NOT to trust you. If you have shown him that you are trustworthy and have the grades to back up that you are responsible...I don't see why not.
Oh...any under NO circumstances would your boyfriend EVER sit behind the drivers wheel. You drive or you don't get the car.

That's no longer legal there was a lawsuit back in the 90's. That being said their is nothing stopping rental companies from charging insane premiums to younger drivers.

Since you didn't write anything about how you would be responsible and respectful with the car, I'd be real hesitant to say yes. As a dad, I would be very worried that your boyfriend would get behind the wheel and do something stupid and get you hurt. If he cares that much about the car,I'm sure he cares even more about you.
