Saw my first NHRA Fuel race there as a kid! Stinks that they are closing it up. Maybe someone will come through with bag of money and keep it alive.

to that!

And yes... it's always sad to see a dragstrip close down for good.

NC has a bunch of 1/8th mile dragstrips, but the closest one to me (Roxboro Dragway) hasn't been in full operation for about the last two years & was auctioned off back in November. This meant that I've had to go 50+ miles instead of 30 miles to get to the next closest dragstrip.

Fortunately for me though, it appears that the company that bought it plans to keep it open & operate on a full schedule... hopefully, starting this spring.

I suspect it's all about the insurance costs. What a shame.

You can blame the locals who don't like the noise. It sucks I hate seeing this. The family shouldn't have just handed it over either, if they were having money problems then they should have partnered up with someone and kept it going.
Screw the people that move into the area and complain about the noise. You knew when you signed the papers that there was a race track in the area. Next people are going to complain about all of the street racing. Well stop taking away our tracks! I wish there were more tracks closer to me, unfortunately no matter where I wanna run its at least an hour ride but its worth it. Well that's my rant. They keep taking away my tracks I'm going to start my own Street Outlaws show lol.

Where'd you hear it was due to noise? This article states it was just a financial decision.
