Anyone Try Using Spraycan Tint

Looking to tint my new taillights and thinking of trying out VHT SP999 Nite Shades. Just wondering if its any good. Old taillights have the film tint sort of like window tint. They look ok, a few small bubbles, I got better with each light. The spraycan comes w/a clear coat. About 25 bucks, the film is less money, but the spray you can keep adding coats until you get it as dark as you choose.

I have, it really works well if you spend your time during the prep work, I agree with the coats doing them to what you like, I had mine looking like a black cherry, they looked amazing... I also put clear coat on them after.

Not sure, I think it would look patchy/streaky. That won't show as much on taillights or side markers.

Haven't used it myself, but some guys in my car club have used it on tail lights and side markers and it looks pretty good

In fact I half wish I had used it on my side markers before I decided to paint them, might have been a lot easier

I've used it with great results on my taillights and side markers. You have to wet sand them with 1500-2000 grit wet sandpaper after each coat and before the first. Be careful though it can block all light if want it to...

i have seen some static cling tint like covers for the taillights that look decent and are only held on by static

It's pretty good stuff. I have done a few sets with it. Just put it on a little lighter than you want it as it will be a bit darker when it dries. It will lighten up after a year or so though.

Best regards,

I'd be careful doing that, most states have limits to how dark you can go and film tint is sold at specific percentages. Start spraying, and if its like the taillight tint, it gets darker as it dries. I'd be afraid of streaks and uneven coating, but I'd like to see someone's attempt. Never been all that good at painting to perfection.

I remember back in the late 60's the was a spray window tint, that was blue in color and was used to spray the brow on the windshield. You would spray it on then use a razor blade to trim it or scrape it off.

The lights now have a couple coats of tint and today a couple coats of clear. Hope they didn't go too dark, very easy to get carried away with the tint. Also have to be careful they all tint about the same, a couple extra sprays on one and you can see the difference. They look pretty good, now to let them set overnight and they'll be ready for the install!

Not the best pictures, can't wait to get a pic after the install.
