Single exhaust vs. NPP
I know I'm in the minority, but I wanted to see if there are others out there like me.
I prefer the single dual exhaust over the NPP exhaust. Maybe it's because I had a Corvette for 3 1/2 years with NPP and am ready for something different. I feel the single exhaust gives the 1LE more of the old time feel and look and I also like the sound of it. Not too loud, but has enough bite to let someone know you're there. Anybody else out there like me? |

We had to order our car because every 1LE that was on any lot had the NPP option. It was the one option I did not want. I do not need to make any additional noise with our car, especially leaving early or coming home late, at church, or a golf course. And with zero performance benefit ( I think 3 HP was confirmed), it was nothing I was interested in. To answer your question, you are not alone, but yes, we are in the minority.

I custom ordered my car without the NPP just because I didn't want to deal with air valves and pulling fuses on the exhaust. I immediately had a Corsa Performance quad-tip waiting with the new rear fascia to replace the dual exhaust. I honestly didn't like the two huge mufflers sticking out with the dual exhaust. But, it's your car and as long as you like it, that's all that matters.

The NPP isn't for everyone. I had never had a vehicle with it before and I really like it. I've done the fuse pull at the track and I have an OBD device for the street the will allow me to keep the valves open or closed at will - except at startup when it needs to build vacuum before it will close the valves. I can see that the loudness first thing in the morning could be undesirable or get old fast. And it only gets louder if you add headers and high flow cats!

You mean dual exhaust tips vs. quad. The quad tips in the NPP are functional btw.

If I ever reach the point in my life where either the exhaust or the music are "too loud," it will be time to hand the keys over to the boy. My fuse is pulled and I'm planning headers and hi flo cats next summer.

Like nvydvr, I order my car without NPP because I don't like the idea of moving parts in the exhaust system. That's just asking for trouble down the road no matter who makes the exhaust (search the forums). Now I must confess. After rolling up in my driveway from picking up the car, I did begin to install a borla atak catback exhaust (dual single tip design).

To each their own. I prefer my NPP, but can see how the rumble every early morning could get annoying. I drive mine rarely, so the NPP is music to my ears

I ordered mine without NPP because I like the quiet stealthy mode. I'll put the loud pipes on my other hot rod.

No NPP for me coz I think the quad looks like crap on a Camaro, like a pimped BMW

NPP is a great bang for the buck for an active exhaust IMO. Quiet when your cruising and than Awesome when you get on it.

in 2013 i test drive 2 ss, one was auto and the other one manual. i was so deceived by the sound of the auto ,whisper quiet. the 6 speed was ok but still needed some bark. my ws6 had magnaflow and was louder. so i said if i order one i'll ditch that exhaust so fast, to put an aftermarket one... but time passed and when 14 came in with the NPP i just had to have one. i ordered my 1le with one,once it arrived ,i did the fuse pull directly in the dealer parking lot so i could enjoy my ride home.
it's the sound that i was looking for +it's all factory. a little louder with my headers&cats, but when doing normal highway speeds it's ok, it only get louder if you press it or downshift. no drone at all. i love it. |
