The nerve...

Was responding to another thread and remembered something a salesman did (or tried to do) the day I bought my Camaro.

Pulling back into the lot at the end of the test drive, I had already determined that I was getting the car. Pre-approved, so in my mind the car was already mine. Salesman suggests I park where I pulled out from. I suggested I park to the side because I planned on driving it home. He was cool with that so I parked away from all the other 'for sale' Camaros and hung on to the keys.

We were looking over my trade-in and another salesman comes up to mine and asks for the keys to the blue one. My salesman tells him that I was buying the car. Then the other guy says "they wanted to drive a v-6 and I don't want to move 2 other cars to get to one. This went on for a couple more minutes when the other salesman finally understood he wasn't getting the keys to the blue one. I know the car wasn't officially mine yet, but with a verbal agreement it was definitely off limits for someone else to drive.

If the conversation had lasted much longer I would have spoke up. And I had the keys. He tries getting them and he's gonna draw back a nub.

As bad as it sounds, until you sign papers, it wasnt your car, and the salesman was in his rights to ask.

Keep pressing? No. But it wasnt your car, so it wasnt improper.

ya may be true. but its not good business. the guy sales man said he had to move two cars. your life is sooo hard.

how would you feel if you are about to buy the car and they let some other guy go drive the hell out of it right before you bought it.

It doesnt matter. Until pen meets paper, the car is still up in the air. The dealership has to assume that the "verbal deal" will fall through and must allow other avenues of sales to be followed as it may produce a sale.

Not even a question. The conversation should have been over once you said you were buying it.

If one of my sales guys ever pulled that crap he would be selling Kias across the freeway the next day.

Unless you parked where it was specifically blocking other vehicles, I don't care if you park it on the front lawn as long as you are planning to take it home!

It does matter, a verbal contract has been made. Until that verbal contract is voided the new owner has the right to deny to dealership from letting someone else to drive the car.

This is pointless anyway neither of us are lawyers and Im 100% sure a good one could spin the legality of this issue in both dorections.
