Oil change today at dealer ... question

With 4,000 miles on the car, I decided to bring it to the dealer for an oil change (Oil Life Monitor said I still had 35% left - LOL).

Guy said they would use a synthetic blend oil.

I said the car doesn't call for that, but they said that's what they liked to use. I said fine, so the 5k service was $80. He gave me $10 off, and I had a $25 credit from before so with tax I only paid ~$50.

Question: Are the dealers telling you guys to use a synthetic blend as well?

Mine was going to put in regular oil but I insisted on Mobil1. The V6 doesn't have to have synthetic, but it doesn't hurt. They should have given you the option though.

I agree... Synthetic is the way to go... I use that extra money for better oil, and just change the oil myself. It's a no brainer. =)

Dealers don't just force a customer to buy synthetic oil...its the customers choice...ur dealer just wanted to make some more money off of you...they should have given you the option...

I wouldn't know..haven't been back to the Dealer since I picked it up 11 months ago.

I do recommend Mobile 1 after break in though.

Ok guys,

The first 2 pics are the dealer's brochure regarding their recommended maintenance schedule.

The 3rd pic is my receipt (I had the 5,000 mile Service done) ...

The first time I got my oi change at my local dealer, it was $30. I'm not sure if it was synthetic or not. They didn't specify.

5,000 mile service!
1)..change oil and filter..17.99
2)rotate tires 4 tires rotated reset air monitors...6.00 total..(1.50) each
fluids don't need checking,but do it yourself!..(free)
3)big engine protection kit?..(w.t.f?)..(lol)..dealer rip!..give it a miss!
4)..brake check?..not necessary!..not at 5,000 miles!..they eyeball 'em when they pull the tires to rotate!
5)..rest of it is just a eyeball check to placate you!..not necessary!
6)total cost 5,000 mile service..about 30.00 with taxes and disposal fee
almost forgot!..no lube necessary as it's all sealed underneath at factory nothin' to grease!
no zirk fittings!
to be truthful,if you are paying that kind of money, you got a"bitch" with your state's consumer protection division!
