Trip to Las Vegas in Nov.....what to do/where to stay?

We are planning a trip to Las Vegas the first week of November. My wife is the traveller (I'd prefer to stay at home), so she's doing the perusing for flights, hotels, and sights to see. I said I'd post on C5 in the Las Vegas section so we could get some feedback from "locals" about where to go, where to eat, what to see, where NOT to go, etc. We are flying out on the 4th and flying back on the 9th. I know SEMA is on that week and I would love to go there, but can Joe Blow off the street attend? We aren't interested in the casino's. We want to see Las Vegas and the usual tourist stops like the Grand Canyon, and Hoover Dam.

Anyone have a spare room to rent

I just moved out of vegas. miss it a lot. where to stay and what to do will depends highly on your budget. I great hotel to stay at on the strip, but not be as pricey, would be planet Hollywood. ny/ny is neat, but a little pricier. and the venetian is a great place to check out, if not stay. of course that's even more expensive. check out Caesar's palace and the forum shops. Not sure how much you like to drink, but I love Fat Tuesday. just a small bar with frozen drinks that is spread along the strip. just walking down the strip and checking out all the casino's is fun. blue man group is a great show, and on the cheaper side. And no, you can't get into sema, unless you are in the automotive industry, or know someone in the industry that can get you a pass.

Do A side trip to one of Nevadas best state parks, Red Rock canyon. It's about 25 miles off the Strip. It is a 13 mile one way loop drive through the park with several pull offs near trail heads if you like to do a little hiking. That time of year it won't be too hot.

I was just in Vegas in May and it was really fun! I would for sure recommend seeing the Grand Canyon, that was one of my favorite things I saw on my trip! I stayed at the Wynn and I Loved it! There is enough in that hotel to keep you busy for days, and it has a Ferrari dealership inside so that was pretty cool. cirque du soleil is really cool, I'm not typically into shows like that but the performance I saw was amazing, I think it was called mystere. But definintly check out the different hotels, ceasars palace and the forum shops are really cool, and there are tons of shops in the different hotels as well as on the strip. I can't help you much about the good casinos, since I wasn't able to go since I'm under 21 but I'm sure someone else will chime in. Have fun on your trip!

It's been awhile since I've been to Vegas, but these were fun...

Coca-Cola and M&M tours (if they still exist). The Jousting and dinner at the Excaliber was nice. Plus the usual of watching the fountains at the Bellagio and the pirates of Treasure Island.

Our Favorite is the Belagio. Not too big or too small and located in a good spot on the strip to walk to most places even ride trams to some & then walk from there. Some of the hotels on the strip are so huge you walk yourself to death before you exit the hotel (and I am not one who minds walking). If you fly Southwest, sometimes you can get the best prices booking package deals through them even including shows. Any of the Cirque shows are great (not cheap, but well worth it). My favorite is "O". Have a great trip.

I used to go to Vegas alot. Planet Hollywood is the best deal on the strip and located well. I've seen Mystere and O, both of which are amazing shows. Any of the hotel bars on the strip were my favorite places to meet ladies. Playboy Club and the Ghost Bar are cool places to chill. Bring lotsa $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If you do not want to do the NEW strip do the OLD strip. Freemont street is a great place or was 15yrs ago.

also do the hoover dam, when we went we drove to the AZ side & parked for free.

The M Casino has great food. Their Buffet is really good and they have a Hash-House-A-Go-Go there that rocks breakfast. It's on the south edge of Vegas though, so you would need a car to get to it. Saturday mornings there is a Cars and Coffee event that the local Camaro group attends. Google Sin City Camaro to find their site.

Definitely take a day trip down to the Hoover dam. Don't fall for the bus companies either, it's $7.00 to park, $8-11 for a ticket and you can walk the bridge for free. Plus like previously mentioned any parking lots up the hill on the az side are free and then you can walk on the dam and take pictures. Oh and good choice on the November trip, it will be nice and cool then.
