That so sucks. It would be difficult NOT to swerve to avoid an animal.

My 25 y/o daughter was driving her fiance's new BMW at night in July and hit (and killed) a frickin coyote - right in suburbia hell, in the city. She thought it was a german shepard until she got close. $3500 in damage to the front end. She was shaken (but not stirred)..

My general rule of thumb is that if the animal in the road is smaller than a German Shephard I don't even brake. Sorry, kitty. I'm taking one of your nine lives.

If it's German Shephard size or larger I'll try to avoid it provided I can stay on the roadway to do it. Hitting a large animal sucks, but a lot of times it's still the better alternative.

Hate to have to make that choice in my new car...
