On-Star... Cancel???
Have had onstar since receiving the car in March of 2010. Learned on “Camaro5” that you could negotiate the annual price, which I have since owning the car (pay by check). Called today……… price on their statement sent to me $199.00 for “Safe and Sound”. Last year paid $169.00 and was transferred to Customer Service. Was told that for a preferred customer the “Safe and Sound” is $149.00????? And, I could upgrade to the “Security Plan” for $189.00. My statement showed $249.00 a year for the “Security Plan”.
Bye OnStar!! Hope I don’t end up in a ditch somewhere??

Cell phone + 9-1-1?
If you're in a really bad wreck where you can't call... well, you might be done for anyway. |

I hear ya......... but, I guess my point is that I can sign up for the "Security Plan" for $189.00 when my statement shows $249.00.

I don't recall the numbers now, but I did get a price reduction by calling them the first time I renewed.

I have been in places where cell phone service was not available. Never for an emergency situation but just for a regular call and the camaro phone worked flawlessly.

The On Star system uses cellular also, i'm not sure which carrier though. If it's Verizon then coverage is pretty good, also battery life isn't important so i'm sure it's able to grab a better signal.

I don't recall the number either but last I remember reading a discussion on the topic the discount wasn't that much. Again, not much is relative and it might vary between insurance providers. It's just something to consider since the odds of actually ending up in a wreck are low, and the odds of not having a cell signal at that moment likely lower (we've got just about every scantly populated place on the planet covered now). Cost/benefit analysis. On Star is by no means expensive, but there's a reason it exists - it turns a profit. The services don't get used that much, else they couldn't afford to stay in business. IMO the greatest benefit of On Star is the remote unlock. |

The antenna on the roof helps too. Cell phones don't work as well inside of the car due to the car being a barrier, creating interference.

Yes..... $189.00 versus $249.00 that is a difference. Unless you do the "work" and just give them your credit card number you will be paying WAY TOO MUCH!! Said that in my original post!!! Sorry, but I have always negotiated and lower price every year. But, to tell me that I can get just the protection plan for $149.00 but my statement shows $199.90. I'm TICKED OFF!!!!

So let me get this straight, you're cancelling because they wanted to give it to you cheaper? I'm so confused.
