Selling the ABM SS, dealer is offering 27k...
It's a 1SS, ABM w/ white rallys, polished wheels, sunroof, RS, gray interior, A6, BA stereo, 7,500 miles. For a trade in number, what do you guys think of $27,000? I can do a private sale, but I'd need to get $28,700 to break even (tax savings on the new car we're buying).

you should sell to an individual.around here the dealers will offer 2 to 3k less than the car is worth.

Kelley Blue Book has it at around 33k for a trade in, 35k for private party sell. The only problem with KBB is it doesn't differentiate between a 1SS and 2SS. I deleted the leather seats but that was about it. You could be more thorough than me and check it out on KBB for yourself. Either way, not too many ABMs produced and that is very low miles. I'd be willing to bet you could sell it for at least 33k to a Camaro enthusiast on C5 who would appreciate it a lot more than a dealer who is going to turn around and sell it for a huge profit. |

Man I would give you $29K for it easy if I didn't already buy. ABM is an awesome color and you can definitely get more. Don't take that deal not even close.

Wholesale book on the car is $32,675.00. Dealerships usually like to be in the cars around $2,500.00 below that number to account for reconditioning, market adjustments, and a bit of profit after having to negotiate with a prospective buyer.
The Dealership SHOULD be offering around $29,500.00 to $30,000.00 depending on the condition and your local market. Just negotiate a little more "firmly" with them. Best of luck!

Kelly blue book is always high. Many dealers and insurance companies use the NADA Value Guide. Much closer to the real world.

NADA says 32k for clean trade in, and that's with the manual, not the auto. Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me.

throw the book away, 27k acv is acually the right money when you take out all the emotion out of it. The dealer has to make money you know. |

If the dealer gave you a good trade, then he's making money elsewhere in the sale price, add-ons, or the financing. No point kvetching about the dealer's offer. Read up on how to sell successfully privately, get your cash, then buy.
