I know a lot of people looking at this thread are going to raise an eyebrow with my post, but when this news was hot off the presses Tran posted different times for the C6 ZL1 and Z06. They were both listed a tick behind the new ZL1 time. The times posted have since been corrected with the most up to date numbers.

From what I am reading from Ford the new 2013 Shelby GT500 is going to have the 5.8 liter engine and will have 600hp which is 20 more than the ZL1. I'm hoping that Ford STILL has a pathetic suspension on the GT500 like they always have because if they havent changed that and STILL can't put the power to the ground that extra 20hp wont do them much good they will still be seeing the 2012 Camaro ZL1's tail lights! I think that the ZL1's Gen3 Magnetic Ride Suspension and its PTM Traction Management will be the difference factor to put it ahead of the Shelby GT500.

I just looked at a close up of the ZL1 pics taken in cali that did the run on the "ring" and it is indeed the goodyear F1 tires and not the ultra sticky optional tires.
So now we know the car that ran the 7:41 time was: 1. A 6 speed manual car, so the auto should be a little quicker due to the CTS-V's auto being similarly faster than it's manual equipped car on the ring run and 1/4. 2. It was equipped with the goodyear F1 tires, so the ultra sticky optional tires will net improved results. 3. It was also carrying Mark Reuss as a passenger at the time, if I read this correctly in one of the press blogs, correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe we should all acknowledge that the goal of this vehicle was not just targeting the Brand X 500. It is actually attempting to draw in potential customers from other brands. Thus the cost needs to follow suit....

Impressive feat for sure. Looking at the list of times, this car is going to be a beast on any track the driver can throw at it. Awesome!
There aren't too many people that can work a car around a 14 mile track at speeds like the pro's do, so I can't see but 1-2% of the cars being pushed to their limits. I'm sure the drivers will push way past THEIR limits, but nowhere near the cars limits. I drive the hell out of my car, but I'm nowhere near skilled enough to reach the limits of my SS. I've seen what my car can do in the hands of a pro, and I don't do it justice, but it doesn't keep me from trying. There is no way this car will be under $55k. It has way too many features to be priced along side the dead horse. The CTS-V is about where this car will come inline as far as pricing goes. The Caddy will get a price bump just like the ZL1 is going to have to get. If it comes in under $60k, I'd be shocked. I'm betting it will be in the $62-64K range. Everyone is always quick to throw out the "you've got to pay to play" line when someone mods the hell out of their car and takes it to the track, GM is no exception. If you want the best Camaro ever built, it's going to cost you. They don't have to price it so everyone can afford it, they have to price it so it is affordable to those that want the best Camaro available. Look at the price increases the Corvettes have had over the last few years. When I got my Camaro in '09, I could have picked up a "lot" Vette for $4k (GMS priced) more than I paid for my loaded 2SS that I ordered @ MSRP. You can't touch a Vette now for anywhere near that price. Everything is getting more expensive (except the houses that were bought when the market was inflated), and this car will be no exception. I think the success the ZR1 has had will be exceeded by the ZL1.

Really? That surprises me, as most of the Pony Car enthusiasts with whom I've come into contact over the years (I admit it's my own anecdotal evidence, and I don't have any concrete marketing data) have always been concerned with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.
