Paint Stock Diffuser
Anyone every paint their stock diffuser? My camaro is black and I think it would be sweet to get it painted to match the gloss black (instead of the plastic matte black finish).
Not sure if a paint shop could get it to match exactly though…nor am I sure about cost |

It's been done. But I doubt it is something most people will notice on a black car. But as with any other cosmetic mod, it's all personal preference.

I was just going to do this with my black Camaro. There is a vendor on here that I had ordered on from and it was $320.00 painted and shipped. I waited 2 1/2 weeks and never heard from them so I called them only to be told it was on back order. I called my local dealer and they said one day order. Anyways I got pissed and canceled the order. Brand new diffuser from dealer is only $85.00. I'm going to have my buddy it for me. I messed mine up backing into a bucket.. I have been seeing a lot of these painted recently..

Being the car is Black I think that's more reason to do the Gloss Black diffuser, that would match the car a lot better than the stock finish.

I did mine it looked great! Most don't paint the little grid up top if it's black it's not so bad but don't like other colors not done. Just takes a little longer. But also my buddy did mine, looked like glass.

I bought an aftermarket diffuser (the aggressive one from Ohio Speed) and wanted to paint it flat black so it still sort of looks stock. That diffuser is basically just a stock diffuser they order and alter with larger fiberglass fins to make it more aggressive looking, so I was basically going to paint a stock diffuser.
There is some sort of trade secret that gets paint to stick and stay stuck to the diffuser and I couldn't find it out when I tried to paint mine. I sanded the entire diffuser baby bottom smooth (took DAYS), cleaned the living daylights out of it with Tri-sodium phosphate at least 4 times, used adhesion promoter, primer, and paints containing flex-additives... within 3 days, the paint began to chip and crack off. I did EVERYTHING right, at least as far as I know. The diffuser is made out of a material that is not really meant to accept paint, but some people know how to get paint on there and keep it there. Clearly I don't. I hope you have better luck than I did. I ended up selling that diffuser and going back to the stock diffuser. Ironically, the person using it now managed to paint it flat black and he hasn't had chipping/delamination issues for over a year. Why? Because he used plastidip. In retrospect, that is what I should have. |

No, sanding it with 400 grit sandpaper and not getting it super smooth. I used automotive paint and a paint gun. Not spray paint. 3 coats and waiting 15 mins between coats and then 3 coats of clearcoat. Mine has been on for almost a year and no problems.
