The LS7 has stronger internals than the LS3, but the Z28 drivetrain is not much beefier. Still a TR6060, which is plenty at that power level. Still a 10 bolt, albeit with a Torsen center, and the axles are the same except for the outer CVs, again fine at that power level.
Now the bushings in a Z28 are better, but not exactly designed for drag racing. Better than a stock ss, but not as beefy as aftermarket pieces that are relatively cheap. If all you want is 505hp at the crank, put a cam in an LS3. If you want a good bit more but still NA, put a fat cam in a 427. Depending on how hard you launch, you may need to modify the rear and axles at that power level.

For the money buy a 416 stroked out ls3, if you don't want to change out springs go 525 HP LSA cam and you should be there with what a stock ls7 engine would make with its 1.8 ratio rockers and if you wanted more you could go better cam as in the GPI small bore ls7 heads and their cam and make a lot more power.
Frankly I won't run a ls7 as they are overpriced......by far more than a ls3 and only can be over honed .005 so its non rebuildable unless you go to resleeve the whole thing and then you might as well have bought a aftermarket block for the costs and quality. SO things to think about as good shops like Livernois, GPI etc will tell you the dirt …. its more in what you want than you know. https://www.bing.com/search?q=lsa+ve...Ey24Bf&plvar=0 Often there are used ls7 blocks out there..entire engines because once ran......non rebuildable easily unfortunately and the heads had to evolve from the early ones....

I replaced my engine not long ago. I ordered the Chevy crate from Michigan, and had my local Chevy dealer install. When going over the options with the service dept they told me that the ECU is $1,200, and they weren't sure if it work with some of the hotter crate engine options. I ended up paying $8K for engine and install, using my existing ECU.

Good info guys ! Thanks .
Think I’ll stick with a new LS3 long block and street port the heads . Also adding a stage 3 cam from TSP . Does that good ?!

Those of us in the C5 love the 5th Gens. My question is why don't you hang out in the C6 forum? I'm guessing they're not as chatty as we are here.

For the same reason some of us 5th gen owners cruise the 6th gen forums...because we can. There’s no harm in talking about upgrading. It doesn’t mean we’re going to just because someone said to try it.

Is the LS7 crate engine a dry sump engine? I know it is in the Z06/Z28. Would be something else
to consider when doing a swap.
