This is why a cop cannot stop a car in Palm Beach County for 1-5mph over the limit. It just wastes the courts' time when they have real speeders to deal with.

Speaking of deviations... Most speedo's are 1-2 mph off at mid to upper ends, right? I travel our highways Everday(speedlimit 65) and always set my cruise to 71mph(in the left lane too) and pass HP everytime and they just admire the car and go about their business... So... I agree with the LEO's... were not getting the whole story from your friend...

I mean seriously? 1 mile over speed limit?
(and yes he did text me a pic of the ticket and it was 61 in 60 zone)
Tell him to check the state law. In most states anything less than 5 mph over isn't a ticketable offense.

Wow. That's ridiculous.

The only explanation I can think of is maybe those officers from that police department are working to rule, fighting for some kind of change or pay bump. And are protesting by giving out small, low-dollar tickets. Otherwise it's crazy.

You like things simple, eh?

There is no proof he broke any law. 1mph is within the margin of error of about a million factors. He'll fight it (no lawyer needed) and he will win. Cop screwed up, end of story.

Back to you.

LIDAR is 99.999% accurate.

What it sounds like, since "this guy aint here" to tell us the whole story...He was in the left lane doing 61 in a 60 and had 30 people behind him trying to pass. DUDE, if you are in the left lane, do 65 or 70...please?

Officers can write a freeway/highway ticket for 0 points and a fine if the officer writes a speed no greater than 5 mph over the limit. SO say he tagged friend at 68, he writes 61 in a 60...and all is legal and fair.

As far as the ticket...I am sure there was another infraction involved...or there are other mitigating circumstances. I cry BS just based on the OP theory of events..
BWAAAHHH what do you know? Next time I'm in Detroit with the camaro, I'll show you something worth writing up.....

I am from Houston and have heard of tickets like this on a few occasions. They are ridiculous and my thought would be he did something to provoke or the cop "remembered" him from another time. I would like to know where this ticket was issued.

There's a little podunk town near here that has an iron clad 25 mph speed limit going a ridiculously long way out of town and they will ticket people for 26. I put it in 2nd and idle through town at 20 when I have to visit. I got pulled over there one time for a crack in my windshield. Cop said the glare off it almost blinded him. It was nothing compared to the glare I gave him for the inconvenience of his warning.

I can top this one. My cousin (RIP) told me that he had a buddy who was working on his car, had the hood up, and the car wasn't even on. He had a beer resting nearby he was drinking. Cop ticketed him for physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Dunno if it's true or legal, but that's how it was told to me.

Sorry...not that I don't believe you OP, but there is something more to this story. I would bet more so that he was doing more than that speed and was reduce, and yes...some states do allow a citation to be issued for 1 mph over...which means he wouldn't win the case.

This is coming from a cop...if it TRULY was only 1 over and your story is 100% true as it was told to you then that is BS...but I call BS on the story.
