Check Engine Light On With Long Tube Headers

I put a set of long tube headers on my LS3 and I keep getting a check engine light on saying the Front O2 sensors are not getting hot enough. Does anyone know a good fix for this. Please help. I don't really want to tune the car because I don't want to void the warranty.

You just voided your warranty with headers! Ok, not really, you still have warranty on most things and the dealer can be a pain if they choose to especially when it comes to engine work.

Actually I have heard through the grape vine, they won' void your warranty, depending on what goes wrong....but that is depending on your dealer and how much you are willing to fight.....Only way around is to tune....

What did you do to get your check engine light off?

You HAVE to tune the car if you go the Long Tube route. The tune removes the check engine light.

I've read this more than once...the big debate about a tune. It voids the warranty. The OP said he's concerned about voiding the warranty. I haven't read a single story of someone not voiding their warranty with a tune so the jury is still out. Hope this helps.

I am getting it tuned as soon as the road salt goes away. I am not driving the car at the moment, just sits under the cover.

You could try o2 sensor extenders for the downstream sensors...do you have hi flo cats or no cats? I'm not sure if it would work for the CEL code you are getting though...it sounds odd to me

you should probably tune it anyways to get the most out of your headers

you could just put a piece of masking tape over the CEL

That's a tough spot seeing how you don't want to void the warranty. You already bought and installed a performance mod that requires a tune to get the most out of it and get rid of the check engine light sometimes it will actually perform worse without the tune. If you tune then warranty most likely voided. No tune and you basically are wasting your money on the headers as you won't get nearly the power you should be getting and have a CEL always on.

Gonna have to decide to either get the tune, live with it as is and hope for no issues or remove sell and reinstall old setup.

That's why I'm gonna wait 'til I'm out of warranty to mod my SS. But after that watch out, I've got a bunch of mods planned.
