Anybody remove rear seat just for racing?

May be going to the track for the first time Sunday, and it is/will not be a regular thing. Is it worth it for this rare occasion to remove my back seat for weight? Does anybody do this?

front seat from a 2LT trim with leather and electric can save ......aprox. 48 lbs

rear seat bottom is another 12 lbs

rear seat back is another 18 lbs

for a total seat removal of 78 lbs

You need to ask yourself is that much work worth a tenth........

This about somes it up. I've always been way too lazy to take my seats out (heck I run with my work bag in the trunk, etc). My car runs what it runs (in daily driven street trim).

But some guys want every last hundredth out of their cars and they will remove every possible thing. But like you said, is it worth the time and effort to take them out and put them back? I'd rather be relaxing after a few runs at the track? So for a daily driver, I would say no.
But for a weekend only track car, probably yes. You wouldn't have to put everything back. You could just leave the seats out.

Actually yes i have removed my entire interior before and besides he asked if he should remove his " rear seat" not passenger seat... obviously the passenger seat has some weight to it soooo your facepalm is not needed and like everyone else has said with their opinion on the subject and not just an attack on a fellow camaro owner

So op yes like i said removing just your rear seat i wouldnt do it but if you are going to remove the passenger seat too you might as well take the extra few minutes to take out the back seat

Now if you want to go all out weight loss there is a thread somewhere on here that describes everything you can take out to put your camaro on a diet

Swapping out to a motorcycle battery also makes for some good weight reduction.

The best and quickest is the passenger seat removal though...

The lower portion of the rear seat weights 10.2 pounds. The upper/back portion of the rear seat weighs 28 pounds. I wouldn't say that it doesn't weigh much. 38.2 pounds is a pretty decent amount.

100lbs= 1 tenth of a second....unless you are a seriouds racer and need to get this extra 1-2 tenths of a second by working hours removing and replacing enough stuff that weighs 1-200 lbs...save your time ...spend more money and throw another 20rwhp to compenstae..that would def be a lot easier...40 lbs is less then 1/2 of 1 tenth of a second....if your that good at the tree and launch consistant 1.4 60ft times...then maybe....but if you can,t get 1.3-1.4 60 ft time, spend more time launching , that will shave more then 1/2 of 1 tenth

Put it this way: I recently installed a roll cage (45 lbs), and to make it look comlpete and to show it off, I left the passenger seat in for a group gathering/race last Friday night.

So, car was running great, but also weighing 100+ lbs more.

I ran FIVE 11.0x's, then eventually two 10.9x's. I won quickest ET of the night.

But I didn't want to go home as "The Camaro that finally broke into the 10's"...

If I had kept the passnger seat out, I would have gone home as:

"H*ly Sh*t! That Camaro was running 10's ALL NIGHT LONG!!!"

Sigh :(, Padre.
