Is this a good starter tool set?
Thread title says it all, I literally have no tools at the moment and saw this online. It's a craftsman 255 piece set and on sale from sears for 150$ online. Basically just want to make sure this kit has the majority of tools I'll need for most DIY mods. Thanks!

it's a decent beginning though there are a lot of things in these kit's you will never use, that particular tool kit doesn't really allow much for additional tool storage as your tool collection grows though

Yeah, I'm not really concerned about the case because as my collection grows I will buy more storage. My main concern is the actual tools themselves and if this is an adequate starter set which will allow me to work on my car.

Just looking at the set, I think the majority of the sizes are standard and my car is metric so I would actually need a tool set with all metric sizes. Am I correct?

for the price and what you are getting, you cant go wrong. good start, and keep buying craftsman in the future as well.

Add a torque wrench and get a pipe to use as a breaker bar and you got a nice colllection.
FYI craftsmen is made in China...but the guarantee is great. |

Yeah, I heard other brands like Snap On is better quality, but as long as you get the lifetime guarantee with craftsman then I guess it doesn't really matter considering the price difference. My buddy has all craftsman tools and the quality seems good enough for what I'm looking for anyway.

I bought that set when I started turning wrenches. Heck of a starter set. And when you buy a box, those red drawers pull out and you can sit them in the drawers of your new box, it keeps things organized really well!

I got the set for myself on Black Friday. It's a nice set. I had a hodge podge of stuff already but this is nice to have. It's all in one place and fills many gaps I had before. Like noted, I did also buy a Torque wrench to compliment the set, oh, and an Impact Wrench . I figured this was a great base to build off and for $150 just couldn't see how I could go wrong.

You'll probably want to add a few screwdrivers as well

i got this for christmas, its a great kit, because it has if not all the tools you'll need from adding a ported throttle body to changing your oil. You shouldnt have to buy anything else besides a breaker bar and torque wrench. metric wrenches come with the kit
