G8 Hello camaro5forum! G8 GT or Camaro SS??l

This is my first post but I've been lurking for awhile. I currently drive a 2006 GTI 2.0T with a 6-speed manual but I was hoping to upgrade to a 4-door.

The obvious rub with the G8 is the lack of a manual gearbox (the GXP is OOTQ due to $$$) so I'm going to be compromising either way. Do I get a G8 with all the fixin's for the same price as a stripped 1SS? Or say screw it to the 4 doors and leather and get the Camaro??? I've ALWAYS had a manual transmission, but the G8 GT is just SO damn good.

Maybe I could get the camaro later after the hype has died down a bit....

Decisions, decisions.....

anyways, here's my current car...

Nice car, but I miss having a V8 and RWD....here's a previous car of mine....

I live this debate, but I would go for the 2SS, personally.

Even 1SS offers manual trans with no AFM. G8 GT exhaust is whisper quiet to hide 4cyl. AFM operation.

G8 GT auto trans receives many complaints, check out G8 Board.

The biggest thing to me is the G8 is big and roomy, with 4 doors. That's probably the biggest difference. But not as cool looking inside or out as the Camaro.

Not raining here, I want a manual trans. G8 GXP is too pricey ("just under $40k").

Many owners report the auto has indescisive upshifts and harsh downshifts at times. I'm not going to look up all the individual posts I've read.

EDIT: I remembered the largest complaint was a 3 second delay in downshifting when stomping on it. They are not all that bad, from what I've read. I just don't think I'm ready to give up full control of gear selection and timing. But, the G8 GT is still a tempting performance bargain.

Thank goodness I'm about 95% leaning towards a manual in my Camaro. I dont think there are really any problems with the auto trans. Ill research it though.

I posted search G8 Board, but I did it for you. There's plenty more on that board, and more on other boards, but I have better things to do then continue searching to prove anything.

To the OP.....how about both??? That's what I'm doing! I currently have an 08 G8 GT, and when i get back from Germany in 2012, I will be picking up a Camaro 2SS, or if I'm lucky.....a Z28!

That camaro brings back memories.

I am also torn between getting my car first (either a camaro or a corvette) or my wifes car first (G8). It's a tough decision for me and my wife, but i'm sure when i testdrive a camaro my decision will be made.

I test drove the G8 and I liked it but the ride was a bit too rough to have with a slushbox. If it was a 6 speed it would have felt perfect.

Uh oh....looks like I'm gonna change my order to the manual trans instead of the automatic. Kinda sucks because I love having remote start to cool the interior in the summer.

There's no perfect answer. I will miss the remote start too.
