Who comes up w/ these mosaic abstract art designs? What's wrong w/ clean bold racing stripes? That thing looks like they ran over a can of paint on the highway. oh well.

I agree with many who have been left flat with the paint scheme, however here's another perspective. Silver is an excellent color to use on a car from a photographic/television perspective. It shows off the exterior nuances and body lines of a car really well. It's all about selling this car to the widest audience possible--particularly young buyers who have never considered a Camaro before--better yet, have never been interested in visiting a Chevy dealer before.
Let's hope the paint scheme was designed for T.V.....that, and that it helps sell a ton of new Camaros. Last edited by PaceGuy; 02-28-2009 at 05:43 PM. |

i just noticed something...
did anyone ever wonder why they had a pace car for almost every Camaro body style except the 2nd Gen? notice the pic below - there's the first Camaro (`67), the iconic redesign (`69), then the redesign for the 3rd Gen (`82), the redesign for the 4th Gen (`93), and now the redesign for the 5th Gen (`10). the only style missing is the `70 1/2 - `81 models, unless you count the `98 - `02. just curious...

Well the 2nd gen was never used as the "Official Pace Car", but were used as "Official Cars" for the 500 Festival Parade and pre-race activities in '78.

I just saw on another site (camaropacecars.com) that some of the approx. 75 Official/Festival Cars for this year are arriving. Don't have any graphics applied yet. (Thanks for the pictures Lee).
Opposite of '78 and some other years where pace car was 'vette and Camaro was Official car. (They like to use convertibles or T-top cars so people can see the drivers and celebrities in the Festival Parade, pre-race parade laps.) |

Great pics Mike - I've never seen those '78 cars before. Does that fellow in Indy who collects them all have a pair of those '78 cars?

Well not sure who you mean unless it is a former :( dealership owner who has one of each Camaro pace car including a '95 'vert done up to look like a '93. And no he does not. I haven't seen one of those since '78 when a festival committees daughter I went to school with used to drive one to school. Been looking at ads for the last few years and haven't even seen anything close.
Oh and Thanks. Pretty cool, at the IMS Museum they have a photo shop with books of proof pictures from many years. If you find a picture you like (and they can find the negatives) they will make a copy for you to purchase. That's how I got those. |

The killer thing about those '78 cars is that there are probably a few rolling around painted some other color or beat up sitting in someone's old shed. Someone has no idea what they have.
