Kook long tube headers question? Also loudest cat back exhaust?
Hey guys I have a question (and just to let you know I'm a serious amateur at car modding as of right now.) I have owned a 2012 camaro ss for two years now, and am looking to get the kook long tube headers for my first mod and am wondering what the options mean exactly (#6513, #6514). One says it comes with cats, and the other without. If I was to order the option that came without cats, would I have had to have done this manually myself, or will this be removing my cats for me? I'm really sorry if I sound like an idiot but like I said I'm very new to the whole modding scene and am doing my best to learn what I can while in college. Also I was wondering what you guys' opinion is on the loudest cat back exhaust out there that will still sound good. And if I was to have my cats removed, could I still have a cat back exhaust?

Oh and I should mention those product numbers are from this page. http://www.phastekperformance.com/Ko...178headers.htm
The product numbers are the options that you must include with the headers themselves. One says "with cats", while the other says "without cats." |

I have Kooks longtubes + cats.
If you remove your stock exhaust, you are removing the exhaust manifolds and the entire exhaust up to the mid-section.

My question is if I was to order the option of having it without cats, would the installation process serve as like a cat delete, or would I have to do that seperate? And if I was to remove the cats, could I still install a new cat back exhaust?

If you don't get the hi-flow cats then you need to get the off road mid-pipes. I recommend getting the hi-flow cats. Either way a cat-back will connect up to it fine.

Definitely go with cats. Especially if you're worried about emissions tests.
As far as the cat back, I'm in love with the sound of the Borla ATAK cat back. It's also probably one of the loudest I've heard. Cat-back: Headers+cat-back:

But could I go with no cats entirely, and would ordering this no cat header option remove the cats for me?

If you get the version without cats, they should come with the midpipes. The midpipes are what replaces cats.

Dynatech. But I would go with your original plan to go with Kooks. To answer your question, if you don't get cats, they come with a pipe to replace the cats. Any new catback will hook up to those. The term "Cat-Back" is just saying it replaces the exhaust from that location, back. Whereas an "Axel-Back" replaces just the part of the exhaust from the axle back.

Honestly, there's not gonna be much of a difference. Hi flow cats nowadays literally flow so good that there's not enough resistance there to make a big difference. You MIGHT see 2-3HP more with a cat-less version after tune, than high flow catted. BUT those high flow cats will do wonders when it comes to the smell of the exhaust, also will reduce emissions. I think it's an excellent trade off for only 2-3 hp. I wouldn't be able to take the smell of cat-less. I had a 94 Firebird that was cat-less, I couldn't stand it. But that's my $0.02. Certainly do more research and make an educated decision.

If you dont have to worry about emissions inspections and want loud definitely go catless.
