curious about cgm

I have seen the cgm paint job on the zr1 in person, and ive seen the regular cgm on other cars... it is no where near the same. The one on the zr1 has glitter or sparkle in it but the cgm on the other cars doesnt at all. So I take it that we wont be getting the cgm thats on the zr1.. is that a specialty cgm color?

It just looks different in different lighting and on different cars. It's the same color.

Yea, CGM is one of the most discussed topic on here. The general consensus is that the ZR1 and other CGM cars are all using the same exact paint but the lines of the car make it look different. I'm not 100% sold on that idea but here's a thread discussing it (including some comparison pics).

All metallic paints need bright light to display their metallic sparkle. Dark metallic paints especially look drab and dreary in low light conditions. Red Jewel and Cyber Gray may look bitchin' in bright sun, but both will look dowdy in limited light.

You did not see CGM on a Malibu. It is not available on that car. You saw Black Granite Metallic, which has no blue metallic flakes in it so it won't look like CGM on a ZR1.

either way the traverse CGM and the ZR1 CGM look nothing alike. ive said it before and Ill say it again I saw the traverse in 2 dramatically different lighting styles, one outside at night under the lot lights and the other inside the show room with neither of them showing almost any metallic flakes. The pictures we have of the ZR1 and the general color chips clearly show plenty of metallic chips which just arent there on the traverse.

Im totally convinced they are different colors with different amount of additives.

I'm no expert, but I would Imagine if a paint on a car is labeled "Cyber Gray Metallic", then it is all the same color. I have seen both cars with CGM upfront too and believe they are the same.
