I think in the ZL1 the manual can handle more horsepower than the auto. It is not a bad auto, if your idea of a race is never more than 1/4 mile long it is tough to beat the automatic. The more you stretch the cars legs the better the manual runs. Overall I think it is a matter of personal preference.

I have a manual. To me that's how these cars are the most fun but I still definitely wish I had an auto sometimes.
I think you want the other when you have the opposite.
I ended up getting an auto SS because of this before I bought my ZL1 but then had to trade it for another manual SS ....was like yeah this is way better, but then starting missing the auto again... still didn't stop me from getting my stick Z though..
Best option buy one of each..

I have an Auto but I "ONLY" have it because of a nagging soccer injury. If you can drive a manual, there is no comparison. The paddle shift is fun but I sure wish it was a manual sometimes

And that is why Chevy chose the M6 to be the tranny of the ZL1 around the Nuburgring. This was to be the biggest selling point of the ZL1 and Chevy wanted the BEST possible time. Why not choose the auto?

I cant remember the last time I drove the Nuburgring, OK never...With that said, I love my Auto, rarely use the paddle, but when I do, people listen. A6 has been a blast, perfect and no BS clutch issues at all, because I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL CLUTCH.

But, if you like the Man, go for it....

I jumped out of 10 sec CTS-V auto into a 12 sec manual ZL1 and absolutely love it!! The V was the nicest Ride I've ever owned but I missed driving. I was just a passenger in the V. I am a pilot in the ZL1. I feel every small modification that I do, but I also know I will never be as fast as the V in 1/4 mile.

no clutch at either the drag strip or road course has proven to work well for me. The paddles are effective for downshifting and are very responsive. The car does a little rev matching during downshifting in hard braking zones which doesn't upset the balance. At VIR, I only use 3-4-5 and sometimes 2 at oak tree is someone slows me down.

Car info changed and sorry for the DUP post above. I think it just all depends on what you want to do with the car. I've always had more fun driving a manual but would hate to have one as a daily in a major city with traffic.

This may be one of the best driver orientated performance cars that GM ever built. My old C6Z is the only other car that dared you to push it past your capabilities as a driver because it would bite you. The ZL1 6M actually feels more controllable on the edge but I'm sure that will change with more mods.

And I'm sorry, the paddle shifters in the CTS-V came no were close to the driving experience of a LSA in a 6M.
