VS

125 more rwhp in a car that weighs 350lbs less. Its said that the Shelby did 613 shortly after, so more like 137 more rwhp. Damn

I think a good answer would be in our cars. I sure do hope none of us are combining the two.

Vey nice!! That white ZL1 looks good as hell!!

Question. I noticed yall didnt use the same dyno to baseline both cars. The one the Shelby was ran on, does it usually spit out higher or lower numbers than the one the ZL1 was ran on?

In 1970, Ford built exactly 500 Boss 429's, enough to meet homologation rules, and not a unit more (due to the stuggles in unloading the previous year's build).

They were assembled at Kar Kraft because the width of the engine required numerous modifications/changes from production in both steering and front aprons that would not have been practical on the moving assembly line.
So...according to this actual invoice, Ford made 1,359 BOSS '9s...paid KK for the conversions...and GAVE the cars away...

Can we get this deal on a '13 GT500? Anyone got Mulally's phone number?

Someone gave the GT500 a laxative...the Curb of the Atlanta cars, with both optional packages, was 3870...vs. ZL1's 4120...or 250 lb...

I thought I'd share that before someone else "fact-checked" it for you.

BTW, thanks for bringing up the "horrendously overpriced '69 ZL1". Here's what I suggest you consider doing: go to the attached website and plug in $61,000 Year 2012 Dollars (the price of a necessarily-equipped 202 mph GT 500) and see what that equates to...

http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc....012&year2=1969

Answer: A Brand New 5/50-warranted ZL1 AND a Base '69 Camaro Coupe!

Horrendous, indeed!

BOSS 429 Cougar, eh? Ever seen this document, before? Feel free to save it...
That's a neato link. The price of a new base ZL1 equates to $8,772.05 in 1969.

...which was the price of the ZL1 Vette, then...or a GS Vette, today. Not too bad.

Yea but the Auto is what gives the ZL1 the advantage right? Thats the one that will beat 9 out of 10 Shelbys at the track bc it wont miss a shift. Who cares if the mustang is making 130 more at the wheels. :-/

I read somewhere that a properly equipped 13 GT500, i assume that means 'base' model with recaro's, will be well into the 3700lb range...

Also, to the guy that said ZL1's are putting down 540 rwhp, please post up a dyno sheet showing those numbers? Stock...

All of the dyno numbers i have seen are between 475 to 515 rwhp... There is ATLEAST a 100 RWHP difference between these two cars...

Lastly, to all the people still going on about how the GT500 won't beat/compete with the ZL1 on the road course, I'll leave you with this...

The 13 GT500 accelerates way faster than the Z.
The 13 GT500 brakes much faster than the Z.
The 13 GT500 EQUALS the cornering G's of the Z.

^^^These are facts^^^

What do you guy's think all of that will equate to on a road course?

For everyone saying/thinking the Z will DOMINATE on a road course is kidding themselves. I'm not gonna sit here and say it's gonna be one way or the other, but I'm not gonna be naive about the whole thing either.

If i were yall, i would try the more humble approach at this point because these match ups are coming, and coming real soon. We all saw how everyone's speculation that the "puny" 285 tires would just sit and spin... We all saw how the base price didn't turn out to be those outrageous numbers everyone was saying... etc etc...

Is there a chance it could go either way? Maybe. But with what's out in the open right now, i don't see how anyone could be declaring a victory for the Z on a roadcourse...

Looks like the 13 GT500's are putting down atleast 100 rwhp more than the ZL1's... What a BEAST!

Dyno numbers so far for the ZL1. 475-515 rwhp
Dyno numbers so far the the GT500. 600-615 rwhp
