Weighed the ole SS today......
Well, I have a 1ss 2010 l99 car. Only weight reductions are removed front and rear crash bumpers, removed engine cover and installed catless longtubes. With a 1/4 tank or fuel, and me in the car it weighed 3900 lbs. With seat removal and trunk carpet and compressor removed that should put me around 3800 w me in it in track form. Last time out was tune only and full weight. Looking to run some 12.3-4' s this time out!

On race days I remove the front passenger seat, rear seat, rear seatbelt bar, and put in a 15lb Braille battery to replace the 44lb stocker. My American racing Torque Thrust wheels 20X8.5 up front and 20X10s in back lose another 35lb or so with stock Perellis in front and Either Nitto NT-05R p315 or MT ET Street IIs p305 in back vs the stock GM SS wheels.
How do you get the crash bumbers off? Did you take any photos of that process? 12.5@115 was my best like this last year. This year Im doing full BMR suspension bushings & sway bars, and a Jannetty Racing posi pumpkin upgrade to 3.91 LPE gears. Last year my best 60' time was 2.01. This year I'm hoping to vastly improve my 60'. As you can see, my trap speed indicates a sucky launch, but lots of HP.

The stock wheels are also cast and have LOTS of material. I was warned by some fellow racers about hubbing the Chinese AR wheels if I got much past my current rwhp.

Rhino79, did you weigh the crash bumbers you removed so I can have an idea about the effort/weight trade off in doing the same thing?

About 50lbs. Just have to remove the front and rear fascia to access them. Took me an hr and a half to do it all.

My car weighed in at 4,320 lbs with me in it and about 1/2 tank, I'm about 220 lbs.

With a full tank of gas my 2010 SS/RS MT weighs 3,680. With a 1/4 tank of gas and me in it the weight is about 3,795.
If you're interested in weight reduction on a Camaro I've documented everything I've done in my project thread. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45165 I don't do drags; my car is setup for road course racing but I'm guessing with the mods I have I'd be somewhere in the 11's in the 1/4 mile. My car is N/A but has a cam.

Our Camaro weighs in at just about 4000lbs with half a tank as scaled at the Spectre341 Hill climb. We were definitely one of the heavier of the cars there!

Your car is fully race-ready with rollbar, fire extinguisher and everything isn't it? With all of that in it, 4,000 lbs isn't all that bad for a 5th gen.

I wish I had the cash for some RTS wheels, I think that'd be worth a couple tenths alone. Is like to get it around 3700 with me in it. Some wheels and track setup would be right at that. I just don't want to give up the insulation or any creature comforts......

I'd say a lot more than that. I gained about .783 seconds and 3.876 mph in the 1/4 going from stock to 18s with drag radials with just bolt ons.

We never really stripped the car, or removed any interior pieces so there is plenty of weight still to be lost. 4000lbs isn't bad for a 5th gen, but compared to a 3300lb ZR1 it's a little porky. |
