Any Canadian owner's get the OnStar 4G update yet?
If so, how much OEM equipment is removed or disturbed? Do they need to remove the headliner to change antennae on the coupe? I ordered/bought my SS1 in late spring thinking it would be equipped for 4G OnStar. I guess I was wrong judging by all the e-mails asking me to book it in.
Any means to get some technical data on the install would be great, just so I know what's involved. |

I'm looking for this info as well. Also, is it worth doing the upgrade if you don't subscribe to Onstar?

The upgrade takes places all under the dash. Not much to it! Once the upgrade has been done its not reversible. Same antenna. Had mine done about 4 weeks ago.

I had mine upgraded a month ago. Other than getting the 4G wifi access, there might be some better voice detection software for voice activated commands? I haven't played around with enough to know.

4G update
I'm in no rush to get this done as chances are I won't be using Wi/fi anytime soon. I'm quite happy with basic OnStar "Safe and Sound" service only.

If you don't get it done by the end of the year, you won't have any Onstar service.

Also something to think about is "if" you ever want to sell the car or trade it in, having Onstar available as an option is probably a huge plus and will make it easier to sell privately or get more on your trade in.

having two cars with ON STAR I called them to see if there was anything we could do as my wife has had it for 5 yrs and uses it a lot . so her car is not an issue except having to prepay . I asked about the Camaro as it is in storage for 6-7 mths , why do I have to prepay for something I am not using ? could we come to a workable solution their response was you have to prepay no other option . at the bottom of the email it said yes to ending it in dec /15 but could be done in 2016 at the latest . will confirm this as maybe I will do the Camaro when it comes out of storage next spring

Just under $300.00 which is a year subscription to basic OnStar service. The great thing is if you only use your car for say 4 months a year you can suspend the service and start up where you left off the following year. So for me I should be able to get 3 years out of the 1 year subscription cost! Good deal for me! We just got back from the Revelstoke cruise and the on board WiFi worked great
