DRONE!
Hey all,
I have Long Tube Headers , Hi-Flo Cats, and the Borla Cat Back "S-Type" exhaust system.........and after a year or so, I just can't take the drone anymore....its right in my sweet spot in 6th gear doing 70-80mph on the highway. Could someone just explain how I go about getting these "J-Pipes" I keep hearing about? My G/F won't even ride in my car anymore! LOL Thanks!

If possible add a Magnaflow resonated X pipe (basically a resonated muffler with a crossover built into it). It's the same X pipe/muffler on Magnaflow's Street catback exhaust (which is a very quiet catback).
It will reduce drone significantly (or completely get rid of it) if you can add it to your setup. Here's an image of the Magnaflow Street catback with the resonated X pipe (3rd muffler). Or spend the money and get the catback. I've seen come companies sell the catback for a real good price. I run this catback on my car with Kooks 1 7/8 long tubes with no cats and I have no drone on the highway. |

Adding a set of J-pipes will do the job and keep the volume and sound about the same. You can add the resonated X-pipe which is pretty much a mid-muffler but that might change the tone and reduce the volume a bit. If you're looking to quiet the overall volume down some that's not a bad route to go.

Solo J-pipes FTW!!!
Keep that great S-type tone, and rid yourself of the drone!!!

Solo J pipes
I have the dreaded drone with Kooks 3" Street Screamer exhaust I just installed this week and I am already sick of the drone. Did some research and I called Steve at Solo and I have J pipes on the way which should be the fix. Good luck

You can make your own, but the Solo set-up is better because of the tune-able end caps that will allow you to get things drone-free in your particular case.
And in Camaro's case, it's more of an "L" shape instead of a "J". Remember that these things will work on ANY brand of muffler, so there's help available for everybody. |
