TH / 80e or bust for auto's. 6l90 ZL1 / cts v is nice but hard to get ahold of a real rebuild and not a truck core.

Im surprised the GTO felt like a boat compared to the 4th. I never driven a GTO but they look sweet, THOSE interiors i enjoy, advanced for their time in muscle car era.
Unless you got a SS with the LE package you have a nifty 35th anniversary badge above the Monsoon radio. Not only would the SS be numbered from SLP for being a SS but it also would have a build number for being a Limited Edition.
13 got the upgraded steering wheel and radio did it not? They still have the visibility issues in every year of a 5th gen unless you get a convertible. It depends on what you do with those trannies, if you do nothing but 1/4 mile race and stop light warrior shit than yes a TH400 or 4L80 is better. But both 60 and 65 will hold up to everyday driving.
How is that surprising? My GTO weighed almost 300lbs more than my 2000 SS and that was stock weight, the Camaro has wider tires all the way around and even though the GTO made 30rwhp more, that doesn't make up for narrower tires and heavier body. Both suspensions I upgraded and I'd rather take my 2000 SS that keeps up with stock c5z06's in turns than a comfy interior.

Being a 35th is just for commemorative reasons. As a buyer you want to try to get 01 and 02's. LS6 intake, more aggressive cam, and SOME 02's got LS6 blocks.

I just figured revised LS2 and independent rear suspension vs a ls1 and a 10 bolt solid rear. Figured it would atleast out handle a f body. Oh well looks like a grand prix with a V8 anyways LOL.

If I were to get another 4th gen it would either be a 97 SS LT4, 99 SS in Hugger Orange or an 02 fully optioned LE. I’d bypass the 01 and go straight for the 02, mainly due to the final year of the Fbody and a better chance of getting an LS6 block. Really the power of the LS2 is about the only benefit and the comfy seats. The weight and narrow ass tires hurt the vehicle.

1999 Camaro LS1 had the biggest factory cam from the factory.

My favorite 4th gen would be 1997 Camaro SS (30th anniv edition) white with hugger orange stripes and houndstooth interior. I came close to buying that back in the day.

love the 97 ss I have though not having the anniversary colors or the white leather hounds tooth. I like my bright red ss, still came with the anv logo in the cloth interior 6spd and the 2ol slp exhaust. still fairly rare. but nowhere as valuable as the lt4 ss cars that are hard to find and the ones I have seen were being passed off as lt4's but had the lt1 Rpo codes.

I love those 97 SS cars, especially the LT4's! if i had the money I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I'll stick with my 2000 SS for now, its pretty rare itself. It is a 1 of 103 car so I'm content with that lol

Mine was a SLP build page on LS1tech, but I think it was only for 98-02 :(

You can try contacting SLP/SVE
