About the Auto transmission(first thread)

I've been wondering, I dont know if anybody's post this b4, is the Auto transmisson weaker than the manual one. Cause the SS manual engine is 6.2L which produce 425hp , and the auto is 6.0L with only 400hp.

So the only reason I can think of is that there are somthin wrong with the trans.

I have probs with auto cause my left ankle is seriously injured, my doc says it takes a longlong.....time to heal. So I have to go with auto, but if V8 auto is weaker, then I have to get LLT.

Nothing is wrong with the trans (many people have 600+RWHP modded A6 cars) the L99 engine is just "weaker" because it has the fuel saving cylinder deactivation hardware on the valvetrain (because some unelected beaurocracy made some arbitrary rules regarding fuel economy without consent of the citizens) and this fuel saving stuff on the L99 makes it a little "weaker" than the LS3 engine hooked to the M6 transmission. (If they used the same engine in the A6 car then you'd have to pay some huge tax for no reason other than they say so.

So, the answer is that the A6 is not being made weaker, just the citizens are.

Thank you so much. That means I can mod a V6 without worrying about the trans. I think For A6, RS makes more sense than SS.

The auto is a 6.2L

The only difference is the cam (slightly) and the heads for AFM. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't get your way of thinking....

If the V8 auto is weaker you would get a auto V6.....?

V8 auto is faster then the auto V6.

see, Auto V6 is 304hp, Auto V8 is 400hp. Almost $10,000 only brings 96hp more. So, I'm thinking, get a V6, than mod it. make it perform and look better than a V8, Probably gonna cost me $10,000.
Since the I can only get Auto, and the trans is good. I think that's the best plan.

I would have to agree.

Ok. Some of these guys aren't gonna be so patient. Ignore some of what you may be about to read.

The RS has nothing to do with performance, so to have it on an LT or an SS makes no difference.

RS is a appearance package not a trim here are the trims
LS v6
1LT v6
2LT v6
1SS v8
2SS v8
and RS available on all the trims except LS and auto/manual available in all trims

For the long run, if you plan to mod, the V8 would be the better option. Obviously because it's a bigger cubic inch motor then the V6. Plus, the roar of a V8 is unforgiving. Can't say the same for a V6 IMO. That in itself is worth the extra 8 g's (base LS vs base 1SS) for me.

I know it's your own opinion, but for me..just because I want a auto does not "make more sense" to get the V6 over the V8.

One thing to note:

This may be your last chance to get a 6.2L V8 in an affordable car.

This may be one of your last chances to get a V8 of any kind in any car.

We can't keep this up forever. Eventually the whackos are going to find a way to kill off the V8.

Nothing wrong with the tranny, it's just that the L99 (A6) is built to accommodate Active Fuel Management. Otherwise, same motor.
