Nice cherry picking, seen this before. Where is the VIR lightning lap? where is Nurburing? Go back to each individual article and see who they picked as the overall winner.

It all seems right to me. The GT500 Still smokes chevys at the strip which is where it was intended to shine and the Vette smokes it at the track which I would hope it would. Anything else would have been a huge failure on GMs part.

I wonder how the people who are in the "can't compare a 2 seater vs a 4 seater" camp explain the 911 vs Corvette rivalry

I don't know why anyone would compare these cars at all, totally different beasts. it has nothing to do with amount of seats either, but trying to compare a pony car to a sports car is just plain contrived at best.

If you group your cars by seats then your a fool. To compare the gt500 to a vette isn't to far off (both are top tier cars for the brand) but not direct competitors. This is like when they compared the zl1 to the gtr. Awesome cars can be compared simply because its cool. If you really want to split hairs then NOTHING compares to a vette because everything else either has to many seats,to many doors,to many pistons, awd, power adders or cost A LOT MORE!!!

I personally don't see the issue with the comparison. The GT500 shined great in the 1/4. The Corvette dominated the track...as it should. Nothing really unexpected, but fun non the less.

It'd be no different if say a Raptor were compared to a Silverado 1500. They're both trucks, just with different target audiences. There would be a "winner" in whatever catergories each was designed for...whatever, it happened to be its be fun, and the mag would just pick their favorite. That's how it goes. Buy YOUR car and enjoy YOUR car. That's what they're there for.

Agreed, the GT500 is a throwback to a 60's muscle car, the new Vette is a modern sports car. They are two different cars and designed for different purposes. The Vette shines on the track and it should, where the GT500 shines on the drag strip. By looking at the two 1/4 mile times you can tell the GT500 is much faster than the new Vette by looking at the trap speeds. The Vette probably hooks up nicely and crosses the traps about 114MPH giving it mid 12's. The Shelby has problems hooking up but can still cross the traps around 125MPH and come out with a low 12. Thats a big difference.

The are both great beasts, and I love my ZL1, but Shelby has left a legacy. Its one fast drag car and that's what its suppose to be.

Damn, so I guess that would be a good comparison to the GT500 then. Oh yeah it and the ZL1 beat the GT500 at VIR.

Ford doesn't have a competitor for the Corvette at this time, and may not for the near future. Ford has said that the sports car market is too small to justify the expenditure at this time. 2015 Mustang may run close to the Corvette in performance, but it probably won't be cross-shopped by potential Corvette buyers. No matter how good your ponycar runs, it still looks just like the base model that was bought as a grad gift.

For all the people acting like the GT500 can't possibly be compared to the Corvette, check out this stingray vs. GT500 review from...1967

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...e/viewall.html

Motortrend followed it up again in the March 1968 issue:

http://www.vetteweb.com/lifestyle/ve...corvette_test/

Not quite a GT500, but Corvette vs. Mustang Cobra in 2003:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...n/viewall.html

Then there is this one from when the GT500 returned for 2007:

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...mparison-tests

Or even this one from 2010:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-revi...d-shelby-gt500

Face it, there is a precedent for this comparison, and the GT500 (or Cobra) will continued to be compared to a vette now, in the future, and it has been since 1967. BFD.

The GT500 makes upwards of 600hp while the base Corvette makes upwards of 500hp.

How can they not be compared?
The GT500 is the direct competitor to the ZL1, end of story! Both are i would say about equal and great competitors for each other.

The Vette is a totaly diffrent class of car ( has nothing to do with the number of seats). Although its fun to compare them it really is an Apple:Oranges comparison. Both cars were built for diffrent purposes.

The Vette should be able to beat any Mustang that is being offered at the time. Dosent matter if its a regular GT or a GT500 the Vette Should out handle it with out trying. If it doesnt that is a major fail on GM's part.
