Turn the fan knob (the left knob) all the way off - it should completely shut down the A/C system and turn the light off...

yes but even fan toggle turned to Off, there a light either on the A/C side or Defroster side which wont go away means giving little heat or cold (depends on the temprature toggle setting) is always ON.

With the fan speed turned all the way off. Press the defroster that is lighted. The light should go out. The press the "snowflake"(A/C). It should be green. For heat, press the "snowflake". Light should go out. Hopefully that helps you out.

you can also turn the fan all the way to the left and then select an air path (left knob). This reverts to 'vent' and shuts off the a/c or defroster. You can then select 'recirculate' (right knob) to shut off the vent.

I saw on here once (a while back) that holding down the button that is lit for 5+ seconds will turn the light off as long as the fan speed is off. Haven't tried it personally though.

Okay...heres the thing...even though you might not have turned the A/C on yourself, the DEFROST system will still activate the A/C compressor as the A/C system drastically helps/aids in speeding up the defrost/moisture removal process.

If you're select is set to WINDSHIELD or WINDSHIELD & FLOOR, no matter what the heat setting is or even if the A/C button is ON or NOT, the compressor will still kick on and off periodically. You can even feel it kick on and off (at least with an LS3 manual car) when you are IN gear and engine braking to slow down. Ive actually noticed that the compressor drag aids in slowing the car down faster.

After the inside of my car is warm and the windows are defrosted, I put my HVAC selector on FEET or FACE & FEET and the compressor will NOT turn off and on since the HVAC is no longer in defrost mode. You might even save the ever most littlest bit of gas if you do this too.

Try it yourself if you're skeptical or dont believe me. I've tried and compared myself over the last 1.5 years and I can definitely feel and notice the difference.
