Who said burnouts don't help
Today I tested the whole burnout theory on stock tires, and let me tell you....
THEY HELP A LOT! I had my best run yet today at 13.317 @ 106mph I burned out for about 5-10 seconds each time and everytime I did I ran a 13.3x. When I didn't do a burnout I ran anywhere from a 13.5 to a 13.8. Burning rubber DOES help a LOT. |

Yep. Heat up the tires and make'm sticky. And, if you lower the PSI a bit, you put that much more tire to the ground. Stay out of the water box as well. Only go in teh water if you have slicks.

2010ABM: there's a lot of people on here that say burnouts only help slicks and that burning out stock tires is a waste of money since it does nothing.
TAG UR IT: I stay out of water, have 30psi on my rear and 37 on my front. Works wonders :P |

Ya, I agree with you though. Anytime you can make the tires stickier, they're gonna grip better.

It all depends on how they prep the track or if they prep the track at all

I was under the impression that with stock tires it only helps to do a 1-2 second squeal just to clean them off. And to definetely not get into the water, drive around and back up to where it's damp.

I've never done a burnout, but reading all this should be good enough justification to do it in my driveway if I'm running a little late trying to drop the kids off somewhere...it'll get my neighborhood times down for sure.(I just hope my wife and neighbors agree)

i think some confuse staying out of the water box and doing a burn out.
never hurts to do a burn out clear of the water box on stock tires ,but you never want to do one using the water box on stockers because you won't be able to get all the water off even with a burn out. |

Typically doing a big 'ol smokey burnout on street tires does NOT help, it simply makes them GREASY! HOWEVER, the stock Pirellis are an exception... they in fact LIKE to have a little heat put in them!

well i know i have said doing a burnout on stock tires was a waste. i passed that on from a pro drag racer who was explaining the reason.
now it is true there are diff types of tires and perrilis might be a set that are soft and a little heat will make them sticky. but i am not a tire specialist. but i do know there are street tires that are hard and good for longevity then there are the soft sticky compound tires for track/daily driving and dont last as long there is my input |

Burning them will heat them, and take off any loose rubber, and I'd try 20-25 psi, supposed to really work wonders. Where did you race, Thunder Valley?

Darn, now I have to try the quarter again . I didnt do any burnouts at C5Fest. I am a newbie to running my own car on the dragstrip. I just heard stay out of the water and dont do burnouts while at the fest. I didnt know why at the time.
Looks like I will be headed to Thunder Valley |
