To Mod or not to Mod, that is my question
I really want to mod my new 2011 2SS. Unfortunately, lurking in a dark room in the back of my brain is a 50 year old service writer jumping up and down waving a bill for a new engine telling me I told you so. I'm sure their is really nothing to worry about, but I thought I would at least pose a question for all of you out there. Has anyone had or heard of any horror stories about cars with mods and catastrophic failure? I don't plan on too much. Just looking at Roto-Fab, Stainless Works 2"LT & catback exhaust, & Maggie S/C all tuned up and ready to fly.

Or just do some mods. Like not enought to void warranty but maybe catback and CAI?

If you go with LTs and a catback, most shops will give you a 3 year warranty on their parts. I know S/C usually come with them. But when push comes to shove, you've got to pay to play.

I'm in that same boat right now. Trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on a CAI or not. I'm in the 'once bitten twice shy' category.
About 7 years ago, I put a supercharger and a CAI on a brand new car I'd bought, first brand new car I'd ever had. I lowered that thing 2", bigger rims, had it custom painted on the interior etc. I thoroughly enjoyed modding it all. Then, one year after the supercharger install, one of the piston connecting rods blew and shot a piston through the bottom of the engine. Warranty was shot. No luck there. Contacted the warranty people for the supercharger and they denied me as well. In the end, I had an 18 month old car in need of a new engine and had no warranty. I replaced the engine and sold it. That was an expensive lesson. And since then, knowing you have to pay to play, it's harder for me to make modding decisions like that on a car that is now twice the price of that new car back then. Cosmetic mods I am fine with, but power mods I am still 'once bitten, twice shy'. Also part of me says, do I 'need' a CAI? It's a $300 mod that doesn't gain much power, but has the potential to cause warranty problems... which also concerns me when I have the extended warranty on my Camaro. It's a tough choice to make. To seasoned modders, it's a no brainer, but when you've been on the receiving end of a new engine bill, you think twice.
