P1870 is a transmission component slippage code and depending on the current state of your trans shouldn't be too expensive to fix. We had a 99 or 00 firebird come in awhile back with this code and if I recall correctly it was in the 2-300 range. I would suggest you take it by a trans shop and let them look at it.

Most of the time 1870 is caused by the TQ lockup solenoid not sealing properly in the valve body.
The reman valve bodies are sleeved in this area now to prevent the failure. If the fluid is not burned from slippage and there is no debris in the pan, usually just replacement of the valve body is all that is required. Good luck! Rob |

I'll probably have it installed in the next 2-3 weeks. And yes, I have the 4l60e

Clear the code, if it pops up again then worry about it... That's the only thing I could tell you to do... I had a similar code pop on my monte, and I called BS because I take immaculate care of it. I cleared the code 6 months ago and it hasn't popped since....

@OP, does it feel like it's shifting oddly even when the SES is off? It happened on mine mostly after it hit operating temps. I paid $200 for some 1870-fix kit online, but Aamco told me it'd cost way more to install the kit than to just rebuild the valve body. |

put the kit in yesterday.
it wasnt that hard, it was just time consuming. i was under my car for 8.5 hours, but ive never gone further in a transmission than fluid and a filter. i havent been able to see if it fixed my problem, but so far all is well. (famous last words)

well, yesterday, i traveled about 60 miles, then about 40 miles, then another 40 miles, then today i traveled about 60 miles and all of those at cruising speeds, and guess what? no more 1870! its nice to pull off the interstate and have the transmission the same way as when you got on.
normally it would have started shifting hard after about 10-15 miles of cruising speeds, and pull a code after about 20-25, but no code, and no shifting hard. im telling you, if u have changed a filter and fluid in the transmission, you can do this. pretty much, the only thing i needed help on was getting the valve body down, because it was full of fluid and it got everywhere, and on this valve thing on the outside of the transmission, i had to drop the driveshaft and the back of the tranny to get to it. i also had someone push the transmission out. it probably isnt a DIY job, unless you are pretty comfortable with messing around with stuff like that. but if you have questions, the manual that came with my kit was all i needed to do mine. dont hold me liable if you take it apart and cant get it back together.

I bought extended warranties on my last two GM vehicles. Neither has paid for itself.

The extended warranty covered $400 worth of wheel bearing repairs, and an alternator. It cost something like $1500 or $2000. My Sierra...I don't remember any problems between 36,000 and 100,000 miles. I overloaded it on a regular basis and drove roughly over rough terrain but was not as generally hard as I was on the Pontiac. The Camaro comes with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty anyway.
