New brake pads

I have a 2014 camaro ss with Brembo brakes. Front brakes squeal with a slow low speed stop. I’m going to put on new pads. Which pads to get and how to buff up or clean up rotors to prevent any future squealing?

It sounds like you are hitting the wear indicator on the pads and they need to be replaced ASAP. If this is your first pad replacement for the car and you plan to retain your rotors you need to remove them and have them turned. If the rotors have been turned once already it would be a good idea to purchase new rotors.

^I'm trolling at work but wanted to comment the amount of useful information on here is great. Very little debating, just good old fashioned tech tips and kindness.

To prevent squealing, use OEM pads with their backing plates, apply a thin film (layer) of anti seize between backing plates. Press plated on firmly by hand and clean any exess while ensuring not to pollute the friction material or brake rotor. This gave me the highest success rate as a mechanic. I also used anti seize on the brake pad pins (for brembo) or on the pad sliders/guides for standard brakes.

As always, ensure you have no ridges on any of the moving parts, I had my front right wheel lock up after tapping the brakes due to a ridge in the caliper slide years ago, that easily preventable issue cost me a nice 240SX.

As the others have said, cut/turn or replace the rotors. If you are broke, have no brake pulsing, and the rotors look fine, you can in theory use sandpaper in a circular motion on rotors to brake the glaze, then slip in new pads. However, if you break them in improperly and warp the rotors, you have now lost time and money. Then you have to re-do the job, with new or cut rotors, and buy new brake pads again, this happens about 20% of the time. Good luck.

The best pads for street use and spirited driving are the OEM pads that came on your Camaro. How many miles are on your beast?
