I think ethanol is put in as a way to lower emissions, and if the government says it is good it must be so...

All of the gasoline in the Central Florida area comes through a pipeline from the port of Tampa to the storage facility in south Orlando (Taft). They alternate between regular and premium ("pig" separators in the pipeline to change the product) and mix for the mid grade (usually at the pump). The "Top Tier" adds a can of "detergent" to the load to make it a "Branded fuel". No one in the Orlando area gets any "better" gas than anybody else. It all had a volume or ethanol added, dependent on the price of each component and the market in the area.

Far as I know the "additives" that help clean your engine or prevent "gunking" is nonsense from companies that want to a few cents more per gallon. All brands of gasoline are refined in the same local plants as per federal standards.

Ethanol is added as per law based on the season. That would explain the "may contain ethanol" stickers. This way the sticker is valid all year round.

And if you do gunk up, use some fuel injector cleaner. It got my friends V-6 accord to stop knocking and pinging. Got all its pickup back.

fireresq157, maybe there's some water in the gas. Not enough to give you a problem operating the car but just enough to lose mpg. Try some dry gas???

It's just what I observed I don't beleive it's water related, I was hoping some of you guys out there could try switching from shell to chevron and/or vice versa to see if there's a common change for the 2010 camaro SS. BTW yes most if not all gas comes from the same source and then the additives are added afterwards. Down here someone in port everglades told me every brand shares the same tank/source except for exxon or chevron I forgot which one but I think it was chevron.

In south Florida the fuel from Shell comes in from Port Everglades. Shell has a terminal there, other companies also pull fuel from there, but the additive package that makes it branded and unique ( cleaning additive and antifriction additives) is metered into the fuel truck prior to departure to the gas station. Shell has the fuel delivered from NORCO La by barge. Orlando area by pipline. This same fuel comes to Tampa and Port Everglades.
Gasoline Reid Vapor Pressure changes throughout the year, but basic unbranded gasoline is based upon Octane ( Resistance to Knock) The fuel takes on it's branded status before it leaves the terminal. The additives are what make the fuels branded. (VPower has 5x the US standard for detergents.) I have heard more often than not, that VPower has increased mileage on many types of vehicles.
Your engine might be a little tight. Try the test again after it is broken in.
I have only used Vpower and my mileage for 2000 miles has been 19.4mpg on my automatic SS.
Good luck with it.

Chevron is the best fuel out there. I've tried them all over and over again threw the last 15 years and Chevron always performs better. Have never checked fuel mileage but if it gets better mileage as well all the better!!

Using shell in my lt/rs im getting only about 22.8 mpg. And thats with 90% highway. I dont understand how some are getting around 26 mpg. Does gas mileage get that much better the more the engine is driven, I only have about 400 miles on the odometer.

there is a no name brand that I fill up at the army base I work out (generally because its about 5 cents less expensive than anywhere else) and i was getting 26ish MPG. There is a local shell but I refused for about 10 months to buy there because they are always the first to raise their prices and last to lower them.

Anyway towards the end of August I filled up there once because I really needed gas and noticed I got about 2-3 MPG better with them than anywhere else. I have gone back there a couple of times since and have always noticed the same trend. I always get 28-29 MPG with that gas. Though I havent had the chance to drive my baby since the end of September (damn month long business trip) so that might change now with the the winter ethanol requirements

I dont trust that shell added that nitrogen "enrichment" in their gas... We'll have to see what it does in the long run I guess

No Chevron near where I live. I've found out that BP/Mobil has the best MPG for my current car. Just don't go with Sunoco IMOH.
