New 2021 Camaro 2ss rust?
I recently purchased a new 2021 Camaro and I noticed this rust, is it normal? I asked the dealership and they said it was normal. I figured this might be caused by the new design of the hood vent but I want to make sure.

I don't think its Normal,However, ! of the last tests for Any New car is a "LEAK TEST" Water is sprayed EVERYWHERE It looks like it was not cleaned up when they were done. That rusty pulley will be fine.

Mine is 3 years old and doesn't have that, I guess its possible they sprayed the engine with water and it sat for a while. I would clean it all up and see if it comes back? Maybe a small leak at the water pump?

I don’t think you have any issues but if will ease your mind take it back to the dealer and let the service manager check it out. Tell him/her that you have some concerns about the rust on your new Camaro.

My 2021 LT1 looks exactly like that. just surface rust. Spray it with WD40 and wipe it off. Problem solved

My 2019 looked exactly like that when I picked it up. I figured it was from sitting on the dealer lot for a while. Looks like a normal engine with 22,000 miles now.

Normal some moisture spayed in. little WD 40 on a rag and wipe it off. Wait until you see your brake rotors after it rains....

While it is just "surface" rust now, it could quickly become worse.
It looks like the black oxide conversion didn't happen properly, or the part didn't get sealed properly after the conversion. The process converts the top layer of metal to black oxide (Magnetite or Fe3O4) instead of red oxide (commonly known as rust or Fe2O3). You can see that the serpentine system has already started throwing the red oxide on the surrounding parts. I would see if the dealership can swap the pulley. As others have mentioned, a coating of penetrating oil will help wipe it away, but wont fix the improper black oxide process. Brandan |

The part is brand new; in my educated opinion, it should not have oxidized this quickly. Brandan |

Factory GM harmonic balancers surface rust very easy. As mentioned above use something like WD40 on a rag will remove it.

I agree with WD40 method. Too that's more likely dirty and grime that got went and settled there when the car was shutoff and long enough to dry. You really couldn't or shouldn't have gotten rust or corrosion at this point in the parts life

My last couple of new camaros looked just like that, especially if they were test driven when wet out. You should have seen the one I bought that was driven in the michigan winter slop!
