Shake in seat during high speed braking
I started having a shake at 60mph+ when braking, I feel it in the seat. I also feel it when getting up to high speed but it is faint compared to what happens when I brake.
Noticed this started happening after I had the rear driver's side tire patched due to a screw I picked up. Went to a tire shop and I had them balance the tires, car felt smoother when driving.Got out on the highway and the issue was still there. Tire shop said it is most likely caused by rear warped rotors. I was skeptical since I have 18K miles on my car. Put on new rotors and pads, issue is still happening when braking at high speed. Could a tire be causing this? I drove about 40 miles on a tire that was losing air, never go under 20 psi and drove carefully until I have it patched |

Did you change the front pads and rotors?

No, they were checked and fine. The rear pads had a lot of life left so I feel like I paid to replace something that was fine to begin with.

Sounds like warped rotors or any issue with the pad grabbing, to me.
IF it is tire related, the application of brakes would not change anything. You said it happens when you are braking - that is brake related. |

Just odd that is started after I had the wheel off and the tire was patched. I do not feel it in the steering, just a pulsing/shake in the seat when the brakes are applied above 60mph

Grasping at straws here.
What about a wheel bearing? Might it behave differently when under load (during braking)? Only 18K would be very odd to have a problem. Might the shop have damaged the bearing during improper wheel install (air gun, etc)? |

I pulled the wheel and took it to the shop, I avoid air tools for that exact reason.

I also feel it when not braking in the seat. It is faint but there, noticed it after the balance when I got off the highway while I was testing the brakes

I want to say warped rotors but you didn’t say you feel it in the steering wheel. I just had warped rotors replaced, and my steering wheel shake while braking at 60ish mph went away.

Even though you only have 18,000 miles, rotors can get warped if the lug nuts are not tightened evenly and to spec.

If the shake is in the brake pedal Warped Rotors. Did you torque the wheels to the correct spec for your car?

I would look closely at the rear tire where it was patched. Depending on the size of the screw and how it went in, it could have given you a high spot on the tread. This is the one explanation that best explains the timeline of your story. I'll assume they did a hot patch from the inside. But they may have plugged it too. Big hole might even need a double-plug. If that goes in at an angle, you can definitely get a high spot. |
