Christmas present for me

Hey group, I have ‘13 ZL1 convertible and I am looking to install exhaust cutouts, what is everyone using or recommending, I have an excellent mechanic who can weld if needed.

Merry Christmas

I run these on my 2011 Camaro SS, and they will work on your Camaro. I got mine from Summit Racing though.

Not my car, but exactly the same setup..

It is absolutely useless, but it's great

QTP certainly
I control using the door opening buttons near the rearview mirror.

I am not aware of anyone making a ready to go cutout for a ZL1 convertible due to the extra bracing. Any good welder can make something that will work. I am in the middle of fabricating some for my for my ZL1 convertible, I went with mechanical boost operated valves that open at 2lbs of boost with metal tubing getting pressure using the map sensor with a DMS adapter. I also have the tubing for the cutout pointed to the front at a 40 degree angle so when the valve is closed during normal cruising you don't have reversion as you get with anything at a 90 degrees or less facing rearward. You can also use electric valves instead of mechanical but they don't tend to be as reliable.

Good noise maker, but no horsepower gain of any significance, maybe 2 horsepower at the most if that, but makes for some good loud sound.

For what it’s worth, maybe skip the cutouts and install NOWEEDS. You’ll be much happier in the long run. And because they’re diverters they sound so much better than cutouts!

Its been proven on a blown car a cutout can add HP if the exhaust system is somewhat restrictive, on a N/A car there is little or no gain. With the valve closed they generally rob a few HP due to reversion, that is why I am trying a reverse Y it will act as an expansion chamber when closed and blow off excess back pressure when open. I am pretty sure I will pick up a measurable bit of HP open and not lose and maybe even pick up a minute amount of HP closed.

Hey bsn, where did you source that particular mechanical boost operated cutout?

This is what I am using and have used in the past
https://www.ebay.com/itm/234383713163
You can find them on Amazon or google it. No matter where you buy them, I think they are all coming from the same manufacturer. The quality is very good, if you're running much boost don't use a rubber line use a hard line like what is used on air suspension or metal 3/16" line. The nipples are 6mm so I am using 3/16 compression fittings with one side drilled out to 6mm-instead of the ferrell I am using a nitrile o ring. Can't pull it out by hand when tightened so should hold up fine under boost.

This is exactly what I am looking for, open under boost. Being as I am also on air, I could tie in an override from my existing air system with regulator.

Just from what I have read on the forums here, people seem to have a better opinion on the Noweeds vs QTP. More people complaining of failures with QTP. I was looking at using something like the BMR brace to see if that would allow Noweeds to work on a convertible. I may have to go the welding route if I decide to get them though. If anyone has a convertible with Noweeds would like to hear what they had to do.
