its 4 - 5 months and its Synthetic oil, its not going to break down.

Park it, let it sit, change it when you put it back on the road.

I think anyone who sits their car out for the winter is in a tough spot. You dont want to let the old oil sit, but then you dont want to let new oil sit for 5 months. Tough decision so I will not answer.

How about changing it now with regular non-synthetic oil.....you aren't gonna drive it anyways, so its never gonna get fully circulated or warm up to start to absorb contaminants. Then in the Spring you can dump the "storage oil" and put in fresh Mobil 1.

I would change the oil before putting it away for the winter using the synthetic oil.
I do not like the old oil sitting there with acid residue from the combustion process.
I did this with my Harley every year and there were no problems, I used Amsoil.
Just my 2 cents.

Uh...why? If he is due for an oil change, why not change it before long storage? Would you like to sit in a dirty poopy diaper overnight?

See above. How is it a waste of money? Old oil has contaminates, water, residues.

Where are you getting this BS info? I am sorry, but touting BS information isn't cool. If you are offended, I was offended with your comment

Why? Hmmm...drain old oil, dump in non synthetic. drain in spring. Many, many many reputable sources tell you NOT to run a car in the winter if the car is in 100% hibernation/storage. The entire point of running a car in the winter is to FULLY warm up the engine, and oil to maximum temps to burn off all water or condensation in the crankcase. Oil will NOT pick up contaminates over the winter storage and will only absorb same by the byproduct of cmbustion and what gets past the air filter (slicons). If you do not drive or start it, you have not to worry about "contaminates. You should be worried about condensation "if" you have old oil in the crankcase. You will reduce water in crankcase with fresh clean oil prior to storage and will increase water in oil by starting the engine in winter because the byproduct of combustion is H20 and if not completely burned off, will screw the storage plan up.

And why spend $35 and a filter for non synthetic oil just for the winter only to use it for infrequent starts to slightly warm up oil then dump it in spring. Why not just use Mobil1 and Mobil1 filter prior to storage and run that?

It is highly recommended thay you change your oil and filter prior to storage with what you normally use and NOT start your car every other day, every week, every other week...leave it be and wait till spring.

Parked till April or May???? Thats reason enough to relocate south so you can drive year round. On topic, I'd prefer clean oil sitting in my oil pan for that long.

I vote to change the oil now, then drive with that oil in the spring. New synthetic sitting for 5 months won't hurt it. I change my oil once per year, or 3,000 miles. Usually I hit the year mark first.

This is your baby. Change the oil now and I would change it again.

Think of it like this:

If your baby had a stinky diaper, would you let her sit there for 5 months before you changed it!

Just think of the flies!

Change is good.
