Lots of people use dealer financing.

The only kind of loans we do are car loans, so we get very competitive rates.

Well, I went to a few local banks here and they don't do financing directly to the buyer, they do it via the dealer. Now, if you belong to a credit union, then you probably can go there and apply. Most dealers will look for the best rate/offer for the customer when it comes to financing. All my cars I have bought have all been financed via the dealer, execpt for my 99 TransAm. I got a load at my credit union for that.

I have beat USAA rates EVERY TIME (with good credit) and at least 5 deals....

You buy the car, I ask what the best rate You can get is, and we try to beat it.

BUT, keep in mind there are still dealers out there that will still sell you a payment and then adjust the rate up to get to that payment for you - so you pay more than you need to. If you don't get competitive rates and get one rate from the dealer, chances are you can get that lowered

As CamaroScotty mentioned...be careful with the dealer providing you with the financing (through their banks) - make sure you know exactly what rate you are paying and the term, as dealers also make money by marking up the rate the bank charges on the financing. Generally you should be able to get a better rate through a Credit Union directly (mine will cut a check made payable to the dealership and hand me the check to bring to the dealer). Good luck.

Always go to your bank/banks and find out what rates they are giving you. That way when the dealer gives you a quote you know if its a good deal for you.
